C9 Chapter Nine

The inaugural event was a small one, so much time wasn't spent on it. After my swearing in and the oath taking, there were other minor activities to spice up the mood.

There were facial makeup contests, body makeup contests, quiz time and different kinds of interesting games to make it more fun.

I found out that Jessica, my friend was the one in charge of organizing the inaugural event. Oh wow, I was impressed. Little wonder she would leave and return once in a while, I had no idea she was busy with making sure everything went fine.

After about two hours and thirty minutes it started, it was all over. Refreshment time took all the other time remaining, till the main closing time.

I was so tired. I preferred working on my laptop for hours and frequently getting up to stretch my body than to sit down for hours because of a party. Though, I'd prefer a vacation abroad to all of that mentioned above.

One of the ladies served me rice and sauce with wine. I sat comfortably on my special seat to devour the delicacy just set before me. Well, atleast that is a privilege and I accept it gracefully.

I had totally forgotten that I had lunch in my lunch pack as I dug into the food and ate, smacking my lips to the delicious sensation it gave me.

I was still eating, when I heard my phone ring. I paused and gulped down some contents from the water can, so I can take the call with ease.

I checked the caller, it was my darling husband. I checked the time and it was few minutes past 3pm. I wondered why he was calling. Nonetheless, I picked the call.

"Hey Darling. How are you?

"My Sweetheart, My Lover, My Baby, My sweet pie cookies."

"Oh my goodness, I'm gonna choke if you do not stop now. Come on sweet, don't tell me you're missing me already? I asked, knowing fully well what the answer to that question will be.

"You know I really miss you every time. Well, uhm hope you're enjoying yourself? He asked.

I blushed, though tried to hide that from people around. "My baby, I am. Though you know I don't fancy parties that much. I was eating before you called anyway." I answered.

"You're funny, yeah I know you don't. But just make sure you enjoy all of it, since it's not a usual occurrence you know." He advised.

Me playing with my hair now, I replied, "You're right darling. I will do that, since you have asked me to."

"That's my one and only baby." He said, raising his voice.

"Calm down." I replied, laughing. "So, uhm why did you call?

"Nothing really, just checking up on my sweetheart. You know, I heard that, where your treasure is, that's where your heart is as well, right? Uhm, I guess you have an answer to that." He replied soothingly.

"Darling your words can sweep me off my feet. I love it when you say that. You should be an orator, you know." I said, "I am really blushing right now baby. I think I'm filled up already."

"Hahahaha, make sure you eat sweetheart, it's necessary. By the way, I'll be coming home earlier today. I figured that you might be tired, so don't bother picking up the kids from school, I will do that."

"Oh my! That's so kind of you. Thank you my love."

I heard the sound of a vehicle start and then I started to hear the sound of some other vehicles moving, this was coming from his background.

"Darling, are you driving?

"Yeah, I just drove out of the compound. I want to get something from the mall nearby." He answered.

"Don't answer calls while driving babe, that's not safe you know."

"Yeah, I know, because you say that all the time. I hear you my love, but I'm good."

"Let's talk when you're not on motion okay.?

"Okay. I love you."

"Love you too darling." I said, then I hung up the call, to continue my meal.

"That was Alex on the phone right? A voice asked from behind.

I shuddered at first. I wasn't expecting anyone to be behind me. I turned around to see who was that and I saw Jessica staring at me, arms folded and smiling like a stray dog.

"Jess? Come on, how long have you been standing there, huh?

"Atleast, long enough to get enough lines I could use to spice my own marriage up." She answered, sitting down opposite me and still smiling.

"Seriously, you just never change, you woman."

"No I don't. Tell me, do you two still do your love stuff like you were just newly wedded? Gosh! How do you guys still do that?

"Jess, not again please, I'm not in for this discussion again, atleast not now." I answered, taking a full spoon of salad and stuffing it inside my mouth.

"Sonia, I just want to spice my own. You see, for a while now we hardly call ourselves all these pet names you and your husband use on yourself. I want us to."

"Jess, because we use pet names and all those stuff doesn't mean we don't have issues at times. We just learn how to balance things together and make things work."

"Those sweet things you guys do, that's what keeps the marriage going." Jess said.

"No no no, don't go there. That's not it at all. Let me ask, do you and your husband have troubles a lot?

"Well, not really, just few times. Usually, I'm the problem in those cases." She replied.

"Exactly, that's the sweetness of marriage. Peace, happiness, joy. Not pet names. I and Alex are used to these, so it's kinda hard for us to stop. Don't you think Eddy will see it as odd if you start forcing him into that? Think about it."

"Oh yeah, you're right Sonia, that's quite true."

"You just look for what he likes and, make sure he always get it. The love will keep flowing naturally. If you still feel it could work for you, you can go ahead and try it. But don't come running to my shoulders to cry on, because I won't listen."

"Haha, you know you're the only close friend I have. So I will, once in a while." Jess replied.

"Please, allow me finish up this tasty meal."

She laughed coolly. "Please do, enjoy your meal my dear. I will come back for you." She stood up and left, while I continued with my meal.
