C7 Unleashing The Beast
I woke up this morning feeling disoriented. Everything just feels weird. I should have known it was a sign of a storm coming.
I get ready to go to work. The diner doesn't have any formal uniform for its staff, so I wear my normal clothing consisting of jeans and a T-shirt. I pull my hair into a ponytail and put on comfortable shoes on the assumption of today being a stressful day. I am so tired considering strange dreams have been plaguing me with no solution in sight.
I get to work and sit in my post, I am a bit early, so I have to wait until the manager arrives to school me in the cash register machine. After a while, she does and goes through the motions with me. When I fully understand, she leaves me to attend to customers. I work for a few hours before I have to clock off because my shift ends.
I start the tedious walk to school, silently praying I can save fast enough to buy a car. I'm lost in thought when I notice a car driving silently beside me with the driver trying to get my attention. I look closer, only to see Dominic. He grins at me when he catches my eye.
"Hi, sunshine. Need a ride?" He asks, still driving because I refuse to stop walking.
"No, I don't, and don't call me that." I don't need to get kidnapped, please.
"Come on beautiful, it will be ungentlemanly of me to see a beautiful girl walking under the sun and drive past her." He tries to convince me.
"Don't worry, I absolve you from your gentlemanliness. You are free to go." I tell him and quicken my pace. I can hear him parking his car before his footsteps move in my direction.
"Hey," he puts his palm on my arm to stop me. "Let me drop you, okay."
"No, I'm sorry, but you're a stranger. What if you kidnap me? No one will know my destination." His chin stiffens at this before he rearranges his facial expression to a smile and places his palm on his heart to feign hurt.
"You are hurting my feelings, I thought we were friends. After exchanging numbers and all that." His logic doesn't even make sense.
"I hate to break it to you, but that doesn't mean we are friends."
"Okay, please, I want to be your friend. This is my way of offering you friendship. Are you going to keep breaking my heart?"
"Alright, we can be friends, but I'm still not getting into your car."
"I'm just going to follow you until you do. Both of us will end up walking to school." He threatens.
"Are you threatening me?" I question with one eyebrow up.
"Me, never, I can never do that. All I am saying is that I haven't exercised in a long while. This will be a nice opportunity to exercise and start our friendship." It's obvious this man isn't going to leave me alone, so I might as well agree and give my legs a break.
"Fine, but if you try anything funny, I have a black belt in karate." He laughs and puts his hands up in surrender.
"Don't worry, I won't try anything funny." He ushers me to the car and opens the door for me, grinning wildly. He rushes to the driver’s side, and we are off. The ride to school is pretty fast since he drives like a maniac. When we get to school, he rushes to open the door for me and offers to walk me to my class. I reluctantly agree, not wanting too much attention on myself, which will come if people see me with him but knowing he won't leave me alone unless I agree. Too spent to argue, I accept, and I feel like I am doing a walk of shame with the way people stare at us as we pass.
I softly pull his shirt hand to get his attention and whisper to him.
"Is this how people stare at you all the time."
"Unfortunately, the answer to your question is yes. This is how people regularly stare at me. He leaves me at the door of my class, and I take in a deep breath. I can no longer feel eyes on myself. I put my full attention to the lecture, tuning out murmurs from others. By the time it's lunchtime, I am famished. I meet up with Candace at the cafeteria, and we catch up.
"Girl, where have you been?" She asks me.
"I've been trying to sort out my life. I just got a job recently, too. Moving to a new place can be hectic. How about you?"
"I've been good, doing what I normally do, which is why I heard from Tricia today that you were with Dominic powers this morning."
"Yeah, he dropped me off at school and walked me to my class." Her jaw drops, and I can see her half-chewed food. She closes it before I can tell her to, though.
"OMG!!! Wow! How was it? That man is so handsome." Candace gushes.
"It was normal, I guess," I tell her in a nonchalant tone.
"It is either you're lying or you're mad. No girl can be near that tall glass of handsome and be unaffected, even lesbians."
This cracks me up, and I start laughing. "You're crazy honestly. I'll admit that he's cute, but it is what it is."
"It is what it is," Candace mimics me, and we both laugh before she continues. "Anyway, I have to warn you to be careful. Remember I told you about that she-devil who shall not be named. That bitch is obsessed with Dominic and I have heard stories of what she has done to other girls who she thinks stand a chance with him "
My mind flashes back to the incident where she and her friends beat me up but I decide not to mention it. There's no point.
"I guess I am safe then. I don't stand a chance with him. In case you haven't noticed I'm quite poor and you said it yourself that they segregate the poor. I think he wants to play a prank on me and that's why he decided to give me a ride." I offer my view on the situation.
"That's true but you're also very pretty. If I was into girls, you're just my type. I won't be surprised if he doesn't care about your social status."
"We are even going too far. He was either just being helpful or he wanted to prank me. Let's end it there." I need this topic to close because I doubt he is ever going to approach me again.
We continue eating in relative silence, pitching in a conversation once in a while and all is well until I notice Candace staring behind me.
"What?" When she doesn't answer I snap my fingers in her face. She points at something but before I can turn to look I feel something cold and wet pour on my head and slide down my clothes. I turn back and look up to see Stephanie holding a now-empty cup above my head.
"You fucking bitch." I sneer at her and she laughs.
"I agree, I am a bitch, you slut."
"I saw you with Dominic today and realized that our last meeting wasn't enough to teach you a lesson."
I can feel every eye in the cafeteria on us and I shrink in embarrassment.
" You're a psychopath. Do you think this is high school? You're an adult, act like it."
"Look at you giving me advice, you lowlife. You're going to pay for going after my man " she threatens me.
"Your man, I don't even know what you're talking about." At this, she lunges at me and starts dragging my hair while I try to push her away.
"You know what I'm talking about. You were with him this morning." Wait this can't be real, can it?
"Don't tell me this is about Dominic? You are attacking me because of a man I don't even fancy?" Contrary to my words I feel possessive of him and a feeling starts to bubble inside of me. I feel my eyes go hazy and I hear the words "be water" over and over again in my head.
I don't know where I get the strength but I successfully removed her from my body and fling her across the room. I look around, I don't know what I'm looking for but when I see a glass of water nearby it feels just right.
Just as it feels right when I lift the water from the glass and move towards and already recovering Stephanie who I standing from where I threw her. She runs towards me but I get her first. I manipulate the water until it's wrapped around her throat and strangles her. Her cronies try attacking me from behind but I take some drops of water and use it to strangle the both of them, holding them all in place.
I can vaguely hear chaos behind me but it's like I'm in another room. I can feel the life slipping from their bodies, sending a deadly thrill up my spine. They need to die. How dare they? I am water and I am above them all. It is about time I get revenge, permanently……
