ENDLESS NIGHTS

Chapter 21

Alessia

"No one is touching her!" a voice called from the door. We all turned to see Dav.

"David?"

"Mr. Maynard?" One of the police officers looked shocked to see him.

"Oh my gosh, he's one of the richest guys in town. It's David Maynard; I think he's cute," a nurse whispered.

"Isn't he the wealthiest man in the country? The most down-to-earth one? What's he doing here?" I walked over to Dav and whispered.

"They don't believe me, Dav. You've got to believe me, right? I didn't kill Gini. Please b..."

He interrupted, "I believe you, Alessia."

"What? We're really sorry, Mr. Maynard, but this girl killed her aunt. We have proof. She's a murderer."

"Of course, she's a killer. Sir, how can you trust her?"

"I'm wondering the same thing. She's a prostitute who goes around begging billionaires for attention. Mr. Maynard, do you even know she was pressuring your brother Ethan to marry her? Right now, she's pregnant, and the father..."

"SHUT UP!" he bellowed, his voice echoing through the room. "Don't say another word, or you're done here," he hissed. "Another stupid comment, and you're out of a job."

"We're sorry, Mr. Maynard, but how can you be sure she didn't kill her aunt?" one of the doctors asked.

"Because I trust her completely. She didn't do it. If any of you insult her again, you're out of work. And I'm sure you'd all like to keep your jobs. Nobody messes with her; clear?"

"Yes, sir, we understand," the nurses responded.

"Good, get back to work. Let this be the first and last time you insult her."

"Yes, sir," they said. As the nurses were about to leave, Dav stopped them.

"Wait, one by one, apologize to her before you go."

"It's fine, David, let them leave. I'm okay," I interjected.

"No, Alessia. What are you all waiting for? Apologize to her, or you're fired. Your choice."

"Yes, sir. Ms. Alessia, we're really sorry. We won't do it again."

"It's alright," I replied. After the nurses left, I glanced at David's face. He looked furious and upset. He quickly approached the police officer in charge and said,

"When it comes to the people I care about, I'll go to any lengths. So, Mr. Officer, I need a small favor."

"Yes, sir," the officer answered.

"Alessia Williams didn't kill her aunt, but I'm sure the real killer is in this hospital. First off, who was the doctor treating Gini?" he asked, turning to the doctors.

"I-I-I..." one doctor stuttered.

"If you're talking to me, don't hesitate. I asked who the doctor treating Gini was. If you don't answer, you'll lose your jobs."

Since I met David, I'd never seen him this furious. Sure, he gets upset sometimes, but this was on another level. The doctors in the room were visibly trembling when asked about my aunt's doctor. I wanted to intervene, but honestly, I was scared of how mad he was.

"Didn't you hear my question?"

"It's Dr. Martin, sir. Please don't fire us. We can't afford to lose our jobs. It's Martin."

"Where is Dr. Martin?"

"Well, I'm not sure. We should ask Nurse Vero; she called him earlier."

"One of you needs to get Vero here. I want her in three minutes, or I'll make things miserable for you."

Alessia: "David, this is too much. Just let them go. I'm fine now."

David: "You're not fine. They need to pay for what they did to you."

Alessia: "They didn't do anything, t..." Before I could finish, Nurse Vero walked in. David turned to her and asked,

"Where is Dr. Martin?"

"Sir, you have a nice voice. Can I tell you where he is privately?" the nurse replied. It wasn't a hilarious moment, but everyone in the room chuckled, even me. At that point, I'd forgotten about Gini's death; Nurse Vero was flirting with the heir of the Maynard family right in front of us. David moved towards her, grabbing her hair and her hand, saying...

Your skin is like satin, soft and alluring, and your hair flows like silk, framing your face with a cascade of glossy strands that shimmer in the light. Truly, any man would be foolish not to fall under your spell, yet I find myself immune to your charms. So, I implore you-do not attempt to seduce me. I ask this not out of arrogance but pure necessity. My concerns lie elsewhere. For the final time, I demand to know: where the hell is Dr. Martin?

"I sincerely apologize, sir. I was under the impression you were developing an interest in me," the nurse replied with a teasing smile, her confidence giving way to a flicker of concern. "Allow me just a moment to reach out to him." Without waiting for a response, she dialed the number, attempting to sound professional as she relayed the urgency of the situation. However, the moment the call connected, Dav seized the phone directly from Nurse Vero's grasp.

📱 "Hello, Dr. Martin? This is David Maynard on the line. You are undoubtedly aware of the unfortunate events surrounding Gini. I need you here immediately; otherwise, I'll make your life a waking nightmare. Do I make myself clear?"

"Sir, I'm terribly sorry, but I'm in the process of leaving the country; I've already resigned from my position," the voice on the line stammered, clearly flustered by the gravity of the conversation.

"I do not care one bit about your departure. I need you to return, and I need you to do it now. I assure you that if I have to hunt you down myself, you will find the consequences far worse than anything you can imagine. Do I make myself clear?" Dav's voice dripped with menace, each word laden with unrestrained fury.

"Understood, sir," the doctor murmured, his voice a whisper of compliance as he grappled with the weight of Dav's threat. He reluctantly pulled the phone away from his ear, glancing nervously at the police officers observing him.

"I am giving you exactly seven days to apprehend Gini's killer. Should that time elapse without results, I assure you, you will suffer the consequences of your incompetence. Are we in agreement?" Dav's words hung heavy in the air, a storm brewing in his eyes.

"Yes, sir," came the obedient reply from the officer. During this tense exchange, Bruno, a stout officer with a furrowed brow, strode into the room alongside a solemn group bearing the body of Aunt Gini, their expressions grim.

"Bruno, take Alessia and Mandy home. Do it now," Dav ordered, his authority unwavering.

"Yes, sir, right away. Ms. Alessia, Ms. Mandy, if you'll follow me," Bruno said, gesturing toward the exit as the two women nodded, their faces pale with dread as they made their way to the car. Once they were out of earshot, Dav turned with an intensity that would send chills down anyone's spine, catching the throat of the officer who was supposed to be in charge of the case.

"If it weren't for Alessia's presence in this room," he growled, his grip tightening ever so slightly, "I would not hesitate to end your life right here, right now. I loathe the thought of spilling blood in front of those I hold dear. Seven days, find the killer. Fail, and the consequences will be dire. Are we clear?"

"Yes, sir," the officer squeaked, sweat beginning to bead on his forehead as he scurried out, leaving Dav seething in the aftermath of what was now a horrific reality.

As Dav stormed out of the hospital, he climbed into his sleek black car, the tension still coiling around him like a tight band, ready to snap.

---

In the sterile confines of the nurses' station, two nurses exchanged whispered confessions, the palpable tension of the previous moments lingering in the air.

"Did you see how he looked at me?" Nurse Vero gushed, her cheeks flushed with an excitement she could hardly contain. "Mr. David is simply stunning. When he touched my skin, my heart skipped a beat. I felt like I was floating on a cloud! Honestly, I think he has a crush on me!"

"Really, Veronica? Focus up! We're in serious trouble here! If Gini's killer isn't caught, all of us are in jeopardy!" her colleague hissed, a logical scowl on her face.

"But how could a striking man like Dav ever fall for someone like Alessia? Do you really think he's enamored with her?" Vero mused, her dreamy expression betraying a flicker of jealousy.

"He's utterly devoted to her," the other nurse responded, shaking her head. "You didn't see how furious he was just now? You can bet your life he would kill for her."

"Honestly," Vero huffed, brushing off the implication. "I don't care about his rage; all I care about is the fact that he noticed my hair and my skin! Ugh, I'm so distracted right now that I could skip a meal or two just to prolong the memory of that touch..."

"Ugh! Vero, you're completely lost!" her friend exclaimed, the exasperation showing clearly on her face. "What's so special about a billionaire's attention? He's with Alessia, for crying out loud!"

"For me, it's a triumph," Vero insisted, eyes sparkling with infatuation.

"Hey everyone, let's get back to reality, shall we? We all know Mr. Maynard is taken, and his heart belongs to Alessia. No need to fantasize about being a Maynard family member. Now, let's get back to work before we end up going down with this ship, too!" one notably pragmatic nurse chimed in, shattering the dreamlike haze.

In a chorus of groans, the nurses dispersed, reality settling back into place.

Meanwhile, at a lavish estate with a shimmering swimming pool awash in the waning sun, Pinkie lounged with a glass of her favorite champagne, contemplating the turbulence of the day. At least one of her predicaments had been resolved, yet the question of Alessia and Mandy lingered ominously in the back of her mind. If Dav wanted anyone dead, she had every intention of fulfilling that desire and removing those who got in her way.

Her reverie was abruptly punctuated when her phone buzzed sharply against the glass table. It was Martin, the very last person she wanted to hear from.

"What does this jerk want? Why is he calling me? We had an agreement; I paid him well, and that should have been the end," she grumbled, her frustration palpable as she reluctantly answered.

📱 "Hello? Why are you calling? Isn't your flight already scheduled?" she snapped, her voice laced with irritation.

"Ms. Pinky, my life is at stake. Mr. David will kill me if I don't return your money and confess everything," Martin whimpered, his voice quaking as panic crept into his tone.

📱 "Wait-Martin? Don't you dare-hello? Martin! Please, don't..."

The call faded, leaving her with an unsettling feeling gnawing at her gut as the unanswered questions and trepidations weighed heavily upon her mind.
