I paced the hall, waiting for Tarryn. The attendant came out and said she’d be ready in a minute. I wished we could get this over with—I was dreading the evening ahead. My family would be discreet about it, but they would circle Tarryn like jungle cats eyeing a wounded wildebeest.
Any sign of weakness would be an excuse to pounce.
