18 - We Are Both Waiting For You To Come Out

"Dad, you should apologize to Mom, not me," Lu Yao said. "She was worried sick about you and could barely sleep. We are both waiting for you to come out."

"I'm sorry for all that I did," Mr. Lu said again, feeling ashamed.

"The lawyer said that if you behave well, your sentence will be commuted."

Mr. Lu nodded, tears blurring his vision.

After talking a while about mundane affairs, Mr. Lu asked, "How is it going with you and Shao Yunchen?"

"Not so good. We're getting a divorce," Lu Yao said casually, not bothering to hide the fact.

Mr. Lu froze for a second. "It's all my fault," he whispered finally. "If I hadn't forced you to marry Shao Yunchen, you wouldn't be so unhappy right now."

Lu Yao shook her head.

On the contrary, she knew that her father loved her.

At that time, it was she who had insisted that she liked Shao Yunchen, so Mr. Lu met the Shao Family secretly without telling her. Incidentally, the Shao Family needed Mr. Lu's help with something, so the marriage was fixed. It was an exchange of favors.

Once the visiting hours were up, the prison guards told a reluctant Lu Yao to bid goodbye to her father.

She took a taxi back to the city from the prison.

Lu Yao was feeling rather unwell and she wondered if it was because she had not rested much today. Her chest felt stuffy and her lower abdomen hurt. She closed her eyes, slowly losing consciousness because of the pain. When she woke up, she saw that she was on a hospital bed.

"Miss, you're pregnant, rest well," the nurse said when she saw that Lu Yao had woken up. "You're still weak because of your baby. If you don't take proper rest, there is a risk of miscarriage."

Lu Yao realized that she had fainted in the taxi. The nurse informed her that the driver had brought her to the hospital.

Lu Yao did not say much else. She obediently let the nurse carry on with the examination. After the nurse told her that she could leave, she put on her shoes and left the ward.

The long corridor was bustling with people. If one looked closely, one would be able to see the variety of expressions on their faces. In the hospital, some people seemed happy, some sad.

Lu Yao saw a couple with a new-born child walking past her. The baby was adorable. The husband was playing with the fingers of his child, a big smile on his face. "Darling, look how his mouth resembles yours."

His wife smacked him on the shoulder, sounding annoyed. "Are you saying my mouth is big?"

"No, darling, you know that you are the most beautiful woman in the world..."

Lu Yao watched the couple as they made their exit, feeling bitter. Her hand went to her lower abdomen out of habit. Right now, there was a tiny life growing inside of her. Perhaps in the future, her baby would also open its eyes and look at her.

Lu Yao leaned against the wall as she rubbed her abdomen. She couldn't help but whisper to her unborn baby, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." The lump in her throat refused to go away.

When Lu Yao went back to Xiang Dongnan's house, she found that he had returned to the city. He was playing with Tian Tian.

He still did not know what made him feel so ruffled. He just felt that he had a say in his own divorce. It was not Lu Yao's place to make it seem like he had wronged her. She was making him look like a bully!

Shao Yunchen was about to ask a technician from his company if he could help him hack into Lu Yao's location. But just as he was about to dial, he received a call. It was from an unknown number.

He had a strange feeling that it was from Lu Yao and wasted no time in picking it up. "Lu Yao?"

"It's me," Lu Yao responded calmly. "Shao Yunchen, please come to my mom's place for dinner tonight."

Shao Yunchen let out the breath he did not know he was holding. "Okay... I'll come."

He finally felt much relieved.

This meant that there was still room for discussion with Lu Yao. Their divorce need not happen prematurely.

But in the evening, when Shao Yunchen walked up to Mrs. Lu's door and rang the bell, he was in for a surprise. The person who opened the door for him was neither Mrs. Lu, nor was it Lu Yao. It was a tall and good-looking man.
