C20 Surprise

Shao Yunchen picked up the papers roughly, quickly signing his name at the bottom of the crumpled document. Putting them down, he calmly took his coat and left.

Not another word was spoken throughout the ordeal.

Lu Yao could not hold it in any longer once he left. She buried herself in her mother's arms, sobbing.

She needed to get divorced if she wanted to keep her child. If she was married to Shao Yunchen, the child would be gone. He only had to say so. That was why she had planned this elaborate dinner with Xiang Dongnan and her mother, so that Shao Yunchen would come under pressure and have no other choice but to divorce her.

However, when Lu Yao saw him actually signing the divorce papers, she felt like her heart shriveled up and died.

Shao Yunchen did not know how he got down the stairs. On his way, he saw some people smoking. He walked over, fishing out some cash and waving it at them. "Give me the cigarettes and the lighter."

Shao Yunchen lit a cigarette.

When Shao Yunchen raised his hand to inhale the cigarette, his eyes went to the platinum ring on his finger. He took out a velvet box from his pocket.

While on his trip to Singapore, he passed by a jewelry store and saw those rings. His mind flashed back to the time of marriage, when he had bought Lu Yao a $30,000 diamond ring.

Perhaps to make up for the fact that Shao Yunchen had denied wearing one for himself, he went inside the shop and ordered a pair of customized rings. He received them the next day. They were platinum. He put on his ring as soon as he opened the box. Afraid of losing hers on the business trip, he sent the package back to China to his office.

He had wanted to give Lu Yao the ring as a surprise when he got back from the business trip. What he did not expect was that even before he could give her the ring, she returned her own diamond ring from before. What was more, she had an even bigger surprise in store for him. She was determined about the divorce.

The last few years, he had been busy with his business and work. He had been forced to marry Lu Yao, but he would like to think that he never treated her unfairly…

His mind went back to Lu Yao's words at her mother's house, to how she had calmly said that she wanted a divorce and marry someone else… Somehow, the more Shao Yunchen looked at the ring, the more furious he got. He took off the platinum ring on his finger and threw it into the lake along with the velvet box.

Divorce need not change anything. He was still Shao Yunchen!

For the sake of the baby in her belly, Lu Yao, who had never taken much care of her diet, began to pay more attention to what she ate. It was necessary that she take foods containing folic acid. She did not touch any alcohol or cigarettes. Even her high heels were replaced with flat shoes. She worked late once in a while, but not too late.

Lu Yao touched her round belly through her clothes, feeling sad.
