C29 Twins

The next day, Lu Yao and Xiang Dongnan flew back to Southern City.

They arrived to the city in the morning itself. After resting for half a day, Lu Yao and her mother went to the hospital in the afternoon.​

This time around, Lu Yao felt a lot more relaxed. She had thought through some things. Now that she had decided to keep the child, she was determined to be in her best health.​

Lying on the hospital bed, she noticed that her mother was holding her hand rather tightly. She could not help but smile. "Mom, why do you look even more anxious than I am?"​

"How can I not be nervous? This is my grandchild we're talking about!"

Lu Yao burst into laughter.

The doctor held out the ultrasound probe to examine her and smiled. She casually asked, "Where is the child's father?"

Lu Yao's smile did not waver. She looked at her bulging stomach and said, "He's on a business trip."

Her mother's eyes turned red. She was afraid that Lu Yao would see her crying, so she turned her face to the window, her heart aching.​

The doctor nodded and did not ask any further questions. She looked at the screen on the ultrasound equipment and smiled widely. "Congratulations, you are going to have twins."

After a few seconds of stunned silence, Lu Yao grabbed the doctor's wrist and asked in surprise, "Twins? You're serious?"​

"That's what the machine says. How can it go wrong?" the doctor laughed.​

Lu Yao smiled back widely and squeezed her mother's hand. "Mom, Mom, did you hear that? I'm having twins. I have two children in my womb."

Lu Yao could barely believe it. She was smiling widely, wrapped up in happiness.

Her mother felt even more sorry for her.

Lu Yao would have to raise two children, as well as look after herself and her mother. Her father was still in prison. Lu Yao was not thinking about how she would be able to bear it all by herself in the future.

However, she could not hurt Lu Yao's heart. Mrs. Lu smiled and gently caressed her head. "I heard it. Two sweet children inside you. You have to be even more careful now."​

"Yes, yes."

Listening to the doctor's instructions, something occurred to Lu Yao. "Mom, please wait outside for a while," she said.​

Mrs. Lu nodded, closed the door, and went out.

The smile on Lu Yao's face vanished as she said seriously, "Doctor, there is something I need to trouble you with."

"Yes, go ahead." The doctor was polite.

"Are all patient records confidential?"

"Of course."

Lu Yao sighed in relief. "That's good. If someone comes and asks for information about my pregnancy, I hope you can keep it confidential. I don't want my records to be compromised."​

Shao Yunchen was a shrewd person and she wasn't sure that he believed her. What if he sent someone to the hospital to investigate on her pregnancy?

She had chosen not to go the public hospital. Instead, she made an appointment at a private institution that demanded a steep fee. Here, the doctor would help her one on one with any problems that she faced. She would not consider the money she spent here a waste. ​

The female doctor wondered if Lu Yao was a well-known figure to ensure such privacy. "No problem, our institution guarantees the privacy of our clients."

Lu Yao gave her a small smile.

It was definitely a professional institution. They did not even refer to her as a patient, instead, they called her a 'client'.

As Lu Yao left the hospital, the smile on her face did not die. Passers by stared at her. The glow on her face was obvious.​

How could she be in a sour mood when she was pregnant with twins? Fortunately, she had not gone through with the abortion. She wondered how she would have felt aborting two lives.​

Mrs. Lu looked at her every once in a while, wanting to say something but remaining silent. Lu Yao sensed this and stopped at the entrance of a shopping mall, saying, "Mom, what's wrong? Why don't you look happy?"

Mrs. Lu frowned and stared at her for a few seconds before sighing heavily. "Yao Yao, you are going to have two children. How will you raise them?"

Even if she were to marry someone else in the future, who would be willing to raise two children with her? Two children whose father was someone else?​

Lu Yao was startled. She smiled and hugged her mother, saying firmly, "Mom, I know you are worried about me, but we will never be able to avoid difficulties. We can only think of how we can resolve them. The children will never trouble me. They are like treasures. I love them, and no matter how hard it would prove to raise them, I have to keep them alive." ​

She felt fulfilment in saying that. ​

Mrs. Lu pulled back, lowered her head and looked at her daughter's abdomen. "Then you must take leave from work," she said with worry. "Stay at home. I will take care of you until they are born."
