Chapter thirty two: Did You Come to Laugh At Me?

The trial was long and took more than an hour. Finally, Mr. Lu was sentenced to ten years of prison. Mrs. Lu fainted from crying. Alarmed, Lu Yao and Xiang Dongnan hurriedly helped her lie down on a bench.

After everyone left, Lu Yao lowered her head and said in a hoarse voice, "Please take care of her. I'll go and see my father."

Xiang Dongnan looked at her with worry in his eyes. He held her cold fingers gently. "Be careful."

He wanted to accompany her, but he had to stay and watch over Mrs. Lu.

"I will be." Lu Yao looked at him gratefully, moved that he was there for them.

Before Lu Yao's father was taken into custody, her lawyer helped her get a few minutes to speak to him alone.

She rushed into the room. Seeing her father, she instantly burst into tears. Her pent-up emotions, which had built up for a long time, finally got released.

"Dad."

"Lu Yao." Mr. Lu stood up and looked behind her, his gaze dimming. "Your mother... she is not here?"

"She's here, but she couldn't take it. She fainted…" Seeing him like this, Lu Yao seemed to calm down. Wiping away her tears, she walked to his side and sat down.

"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry…" He lowered his head, repeating the words. It was obvious that he felt guilty and miserable.

Lu Yao looked at him, getting sadder by the minute.

Regardless of whether he was right or wrong, he was still her father. How was he going to spend the next ten years locked up in prison?

A few minutes of silence passed by. She caressed her lower abdomen and gave an empty laugh. "Dad, I'm pregnant. It's twins."

Mr. Lu was stunned for a moment and his blurry eyes widened. Amidst his shock, he asked in a trembling voice, "How many months now?"

"Three months." Lu Yao's eyes softened.

"Shao... Shao Yunchen's? I thought you two had separated."

"We're fine." Lu Yao didn't want him to worry about this when he was in prison. "When you're in there… I will bring them to see you in future."

Mr. Lu finally cracked a smile. He gazed at her stomach with a complicated expression on his face.

After talking for a while longer, the police officer guarding the door reminded her that it was time for them to go. Lu Yao reluctantly got up, said her final goodbye, and left.

In the corridor, she looked at her father as he was taken away. She stood there for a long time, waiting until her body became too stiff to move.

Finally turning around, she saw a figure appearing out of nowhere, causing her to freeze on the spot again.

When did he arrive?

At the end of the corridor was a man dressed in black. He slowly walked over to her. Raising one hand, he took off his sunglasses.

Lu Yao's heart throbbed when she saw the pair of black eyes looking straight at her. Her lips curling, she said, "Why are you here?"

"I came to see you." Shao Yunchen came to a stop in front of her. Looking into her red eyes, he felt uneasiness creep up his back.

"To see me? Or did you come to laugh at me?" She chuckled dryly.

Shao Yunchen frowned in annoyance. "You really think I'm that kind of a man?"

Taken aback, Lu Yao lowered her head. It was unreasonable of her to assume the worst. She lifted her hand to brush back her hair and wiped her eyes. "Doesn't matter. We're divorced now. This has nothing to do with you."

After a pause, she softened her tone and said, "Thank you for coming out today. Mom is still outside, so I should leave."

She then moved away from him and turned to leave.

Shao Yunchen's eyes did not leave her. He reached out to grab her wrist, then pulled her back in front of him and held her by the shoulder. "Lu Yao, are you lying to me? The child is mine, isn't it?"
