C33 I Didn't Intend to Divorce You in the First Place

Lu Yao's heart sank as she realized that he really had investigated about her pregnancy. Did he contact the hospital?

She pulled her arm to break free from his restraints. She looked tired. "Shao Yunchen, I'm not in the mood to argue with you about this today. I have to leave."

Shao Yunchen wanted to say something, but when he saw her like this, he swallowed his words down.

He understood her feelings. It was indeed not the right time to ask her these questions. But he also knew that if he missed out today, it would be very difficult for him to see her again.

"Lu Yao…" He gently stroked her face with his fingertips. After a moment, he dropped his hand and said, "We'll talk in a few days."

Lu Yao searched his face with hesitant eyes. She did not agree to his statement, nor did she say anything else.

"Take rest. I'll go first." Shao Yunchen caressed her head lightly. After looking at her deeply for a moment, he reluctantly turned around and walked away.

He wanted to stay with her, but Xiang Dongnan was already waiting outside. Shao Yunchen was obviously not needed here.

He had only taken a couple of steps when Lu Yao suddenly spoke up. "What would you do if the child was really yours? If... it was really yours. Would you want to raise this child? Would you remarry me?"

Shao Yunchen stiffened. He stopped walking and turned back to stare at her. After a few seconds, he lowered his voice and said, "If it's mine, I'll do as you wish."

He would certainly be able to raise a child. As for marrying her again, he had no objections to it. He was even a little happy at the prospect when he thought about it.

Lu Yao looked him straight in the eye and asked him indifferently, "Would you be willing to remarry me or not?"

"I didn't intend to divorce you in the first place."

Lu Yao scoffed. "Your original plan was to divorce me a year later. You didn't want to be with me anyway, but now you want to waste your life with me for the sake of the child? Shao Yunchen, just be a man and think about what you really want."

The man's lips thinned. He looked at her without replying.

Lu Yao continued, "It was your father who forced you to marry me. Now he is dead, and my father is in prison. You are the CEO of Long Teng Corporation. No one can force you to do anything anymore. You can fight for what you want, including the woman you like and the life you want. Why do you keep on pestering me?"

Shao Yunchen just stared at the woman in front of him with an absent-minded look in his eyes.

Lu Yao did not have the patience to wait around till he made up his mind. As she walked in his direction, she said in a low voice, "The child is not yours, and I won't remarry you. I've already promised Dongnan that I will consider marrying him."

Her shoulder brushed his as she walked past him. She chuckled dryly. "Mr. Shao, goodbye."

She walked out of the hallway. His fists clenched instinctively as he was left to ruminate on her words.

The days passed by one by one and Lu Yao continued to work as usual. However, she did not always feel very good because of her pregnancy. These were her early days. She was afraid of her pregnancy being discovered by her colleagues. Not only did she have to endure nausea, she also had to tolerate the pain in her legs when she walked around the office.

She regretted not being an engineer. Then she would have only had to do programming and type codes every day. She wouldn't have had to walk around so much.

After Lu Yao finished her last piece of work for the day, she went to her office chair and collapsed on it. Sitting on the chair, she took deep breaths as she rubbed her ankles.

Knock, knock!

Startled by the knocking on the door, she straightened in her seat. "Come in."

"Ms. Lu, this is the plan you wanted. I have changed it."

"Okay, keep it here. I'll see it tonight."

Her subordinate smiled. "Then I... can I go home now?"

Lu Yao looked at the cautious expression on her face and burst out laughing. She raised her eyebrows and said, "Don't tell me you still want to work overtime?"

"No, no, no, I'll leave." The girl shook her head and turned to make her exit, afraid that her boss would change her mind otherwise. When she reached the door, she suddenly stopped and turned back to give Lu Yao a strange look. "There's a handsome guy downstairs. He seems to be waiting for you."

No sooner did she say this than she disappeared like a wisp of smoke.

Lu Yao was surprised.

She went to the window and looked down. Before she could see clearly who it was, her cell phone rang behind her.

It was getting dark, so she squinted her eyes to see, but she still could not identify a figure. She turned around and went to answer the phone.

"Hello, Dongnan," she said when she saw the caller ID.

"Yao Yao, are you working overtime again tonight?"

"I'm not working overtime. I'm about to pack up and leave."

"Fine, come down them. I'm waiting for you downstairs." The man's gentle voice was pleasant to hear.

Lu Yao raised her eyebrows. "So it's you down there. Why are you here?"

"Tian Tian wants to see you. I too feel like it's been a while since we last met, so I brought her here early today after work." He then asked hesitantly, "You are not busy tonight, are you?"

"I'm free. I miss Tian Tian too. Wait for me a bit. I'll come down after I finish tidying up." She smiled and began to gather up her papers.

"All right, I'll wait for you."

A few minutes later, Lu Yao came downstairs. Tian Tian, who was sitting inside the car, cracked a smile.

"Tian Tian, Aunty missed you." Lu Yao picked up Tian Tian and hugged her. She couldn't help but kiss her on her soft cheek.

The little girl did not say anything but rubbed her face against her clothes.

As Xiang Dongnan witnessed this scene, a warm smile appeared on his handsome face. "Let's go and eat."

"Let's go eat!" Lu Yao smiled as she carried Tian Tian. She was about to get into the car when she heard a voice.

A colleague of hers was just coming out of office. She saw the expensive car, the handsome man, and the little girl. Intrigued, she said with envy, "Ms. Lu, you have a daughter of this age? Oh, and your husband is so handsome. What a lovely family you have."

Almost everyone in the company knew that Lu Yao was married, but they had never seen Shao Yunchen by her side. Very few even knew that she was divorced now.

Lu Yao was instantly embarrassed. "You have misunderstood us. This is my friend and his daughter."

Her colleague was stunned for a moment, then smiled apologetically at Xiang Dongnan. "Sorry, sorry."

The man shook his head. "It's fine."

Then he looked toward Lu Yao and opened the door for her. "Let's go."

"Yes." Lu Yao was about to nod at her colleague, but she caught a glimpse of her suspicious gaze and her heart sank. She did not say another word as she got into the car.

Tomorrow, that colleague would probably spread word in the company that Lu Yao was cheating on her husband and having an affair with a married man.
