C34 I Called Out a Few Times, But You Ignored Me

Lu Yao had wanted to eat outside with Xiang Dongnan and Tian Tian, but her mother called her while they were in the car. Mrs. Lu wanted to know what time she would return home, but when she found out that Xiang Dongnan and his daughter were with Lu Yao, she requested her to invite them home too.

Lu Yao immediately figured out what her mother was trying to do. She wanted to reject the idea but could hardly say anything while sitting in the car with the father and his daughter, so she reluctantly agreed.

Mrs. Lu had returned home by the time they reached, having gone out to buy some vegetables. She had not started to cook yet. WIthout a word, Xiang Dongnan went to the kitchen to help her out.

Lu Yao stood in the living room awkwardly. She held her forehead in the palm of her hand when she felt a slight headache come on.

If she went into the kitchen, she would be shooed away because she was pregnant and should not be tiring herself. It was better that she stay here obediently. However, she still felt a bit uncomfortable inside. She had promised Xiang Dongnan that she would think about giving him a chance. But even after so long, she was unable to come to a conclusion.

She couldn't imagine what it would be like for her to fall in love with Xiang Dongnan. The idea of getting married to him was strange.

While Lu Yao was deep in thought, Tian Tian pulled at her sleeve.

Lu Yao was startled. She turned to look at Tian Tian and asked gently, "What's wrong, Tian Tian?"

Tian Tian blinked at her, then pursed her lips and pointed to the television in the room.

Lu Yao smiled and tilted her head. "You want to watch cartoons, right?"

When the little girl nodded, Lu Yao picked up the remote control and turned on the television. She then pulled her into an embrace. "Auntie will watch it with you."

She could hardly think of an answer, so she might as well watch the cartoons. That would relax her a little.

Xiang Dongnan carried the dishes from the kitchen to the dining area. His eyes landed on Lu Yao and Tian Tian on the living room sofa, snuggled up to each other. The two of them were watching the television with similar expressions on their faces. He paused and took in the sight, his eyes warming as he gazed at Lu Yao. Something bloomed in his heart.

Even after the table was set for dinner, the two of them were engrossed in watching the cartoon.

Mrs. Lu shook her head, smiling helplessly. She was about to call out to them to come over, but Xiang Dongnan chuckled. "That will probably scare them. I'll go and tell them that dinner is ready."

Lu Yao was either deep in thought or the cartoon truly fascinated her. Even when Xiang Dongnan's face was inches away from her, she did not notice. She only felt a sudden warmth in her ear when he said, "Lu Yao, it's time to eat."

His gentle voice was like the gentle caress of a spring breeze. It even had a hint of a fresh and clean fragrance.

"Hmm?" Lu Yao said suddenly, caught off guard. She turned her head and a warm breath brushed her cheek. A handsome face appeared in front of her. He was so close that the tip of her nose seemed to be touching his face.

Her mind blanked for a moment before she pulled back in panic, stuttering, "Dongnan... Dongnan, you... what are you doing?"

Lu Yao's cheeks burned bright red.

Even she was beginning to wonder if she was just being shy around him, but she didn't feel her heart beating any faster. Instead, when she met his warm and affectionate eyes, she just felt embarrassed. She wished she could find a hole to hide in.

He smiled cheekily, as if nothing had just happened between them. "I asked you to come and have dinner."

Did he need to be so close to her to tell her that dinner was ready?

The man seemed to sense the question in her eyes. He stood up and smiled innocently. "I called out a few times, but you ignored me."

Lu Yao's face turned pale now. She pushed Tian Tian into his embrace and said awkwardly, "Help her wash her hands. I'm going to the washroom."

Before she could even finish speaking, she had left the room.

After dinner, Tian Tian again asked her if they could watch cartoons. Afraid that Xiang Dongnan would find an excuse to get close again, Lu Yao turned down the idea. Instead, she found a picture album that Tian Tian could play with on the carpet, then went to talk to Xiang Dongnan.

She couldn't just leave him all alone, she reasoned. It would be awkward.

"Doesn't Tian Tian miss her mother?" She was somewhat curious.

Xiang Dongnan looked at Tian Tian, his face expressionless. He said flatly, "After Tian Tian was born, her mother didn't have time to take care of her. They weren't really close, so she was used to being around me."
