C6 Even If I Don't Go I Have to Go!
"Impossible, I won't go," Soong Qingyue stated with conviction.
Ann Yun was highly displeased with Soong Qingyue's stance, her voice taking on a weightier tone. "You have to go, whether you like it or not. The potential collaboration between Soong's and Qiheng hinges on your ability to win over Zhang Yunshan tomorrow."
Soong Qingyue got the message.
She was nothing more than a pawn in Soong's grand scheme of development.
With a sneer, Soong Qingyue retorted, "If that's the case, why not just drug me and send me straight to Zhang Yunshan's bed?"
"That would be better," Ann Yun nodded, affirming Soong Qingyue's suggestion.
Despicable!
That single word blazed through Soong Qingyue's mind.
Torn between anger and a chilling sense of betrayal, her voice was eerily calm, "I actually think Soong Qingrou would be more suited for this task.
After all, had I not walked in on her that year, she wouldn't have accidentally killed that man!"
Caught off guard by Soong Qingyue's revelation, Soong Qingrou's face drained of color as she quickly tried to regain her footing. "Sister, I know you still hold a grudge, but you can't defame me like this. It was you who... you... out of a desire for revenge against Qingchuan, sought out someone... When I stumbled upon you, it was only to protect you that I ended up accidentally killing him."
"So, should I be thanking you now?" Soong Qingyue asked.
Soong Qingrou's skill at inverting the truth was nothing short of impressive!
"No, sister, that's not what I'm saying. I just want to clear the air and prevent any misunderstandings from our parents." Soong Qingrou's delicate face bore a look of sorrow, seemingly the picture of innocence wronged by Soong Qingyue.
Soong Qingrou's acting had improved significantly over the past three years.
Unbeknownst to Soong Qingyue, Soong Qingrou had entered the entertainment industry and had been acclaimed as the most talented of the Four Little Stars.
Had she known, she wouldn't have been surprised.
Natural acting talent was something Soong Qingrou had always possessed.
As Soong Qingrou's eyes brimmed with tears, Soong Yi and Ann Yun couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy.
Soong Yi strode up to Soong Qingyue and, without hesitation, slapped her across the face.
Reeling from the impact, Soong Qingyue nearly lost her balance.
The vivid handprint on her cheek only accentuated her pallor.
Witnessing his mother's mistreatment, Soong Dabao angrily shoved Soong Yi. "What gives you the right to hit my mother?"
"Because I'm her father!" Soong Yi retorted furiously.
"You're not worthy. She doesn't need a father like you," Soong Dabao seethed, grabbing Soong Yi's hand and biting down hard.
Soong Yi winced in pain and, in a reflex, flung Soong Dabao aside. The boy crashed into the railings.
Pain contorted Soong Dabao's face in an instant.
Soong Qingyue cried out, "Dabao!"
She quickly scooped him up. "Dabao, does it hurt?"
Immediately, Soong Qingyue examined Soong Dabao for injuries; his back was reddened from hitting the railings.
Tears welled up in Soong Qingyue's eyes.
Trying to be brave, Soong Dabao managed a weak smile. "Mom, I'm not in pain. Are you hurt? Let me blow on it to make it better."
With that, his pudgy little hands tenderly stroked the mark on Soong Qingyue's face, blowing gently on it.
In Soong Qingyue's arms, Soong Erbao also cupped her face, blowing on it continuously, his eyes brimming with concern.
Soong Qingyue gently patted Erbao's head and set him down.
With tear-filled eyes, she stared down Soong Yi. "You can hit me, you can yell at me, but you do not lay a hand on Dabao!"
"He's nothing but a mongrel. What's stopping me from hitting him? Their very existence is a blight on the Soong family."
Soong Dabao's bite drew blood.
Soong Yi's rage was ablaze, his words more venomous than ever.
