C11 I Am Her Husband

His heart was tightly gripped with concern for Ye Suhee, yet he was oblivious to his own mounting anxiety.

A doctor clad in a white coat approached Murong Yu and inquired, "Are you a relative of the patient?"

"Yes, I'm her husband," Murong Yu responded promptly. Noticing the doctor's glance at the blood on his hand, he instinctively lowered it.

"We need to perform a procedure to remove remaining fetal tissue from the patient's body. Please sign this consent form," the doctor said, handing Murong Yu a document.

Without hesitation, Murong Yu took the pen and swiftly signed the document.

The doctor gave Murong Yu a sympathetic look and said, "I was the one who examined her a few days ago. Given her condition, it's a miracle she was able to conceive. I advised her to be extra careful, but I never imagined..."

Murong Yu was stunned. A few days ago? That was when he had the worst argument with Ye Suhee. Could it be that her request for him to leave Nuan's birthday party wasn't out of spite, but a desperate attempt to share the news of her pregnancy?

Reflecting on everything, Murong Yu was hit by the realization of the pain he had caused Ye Suhee. His fists clenched, he could no longer deny his deep concern for her.

Soon after, as the surgery commenced, Murong Yu was ushered away from the operating room. Unable to see Ye Suhee's condition, his worry intensified.

Overwhelmed with guilt, Murong Yu struggled to suppress his feelings for Ye Suhee, but to no avail. Frustrated and without an outlet, he punched the wall, disregarding the throbbing pain in his palm as he hung his head.

Out of nowhere, a pair of warm hands enveloped his. Murong Yu looked up to find Ye Sunuan's clear eyes looking back at him.

"Mr. Yu, how is my sister doing?" Ye Sunuan asked, her voice laced with concern.

"She's had a severe hemorrhage and needs surgery," Murong Yu replied wearily, gripping Ye Sunuan's small hand. Silently, he admitted to himself that his heart belonged to the pure and innocent girl before him.

Hemorrhage? The word triggered a dark thought in Ye Sunuan—she could just let her sister die on the operating table. But she quickly masked her malice with a look of concern, reassuringly saying, "Sister will be alright."

Ye Sunuan's kindness warmed Murong Yu's heart, and he finally relaxed his tense emotions, admitting his regret, "I shouldn't have argued with her..."

Whenever Murong Yu mentioned Ye Suhee, Ye Sunuan could see the genuine worry and care in his expression. She bit her lip and suddenly withdrew her hand, crying out in pain.

"Nuan, what happened?" Murong Yu immediately examined Ye Sunuan's hand for injuries. Finding nothing amiss, he said with concern, "You little fool, why would you do something so foolish?"

"Mr. Yu, I'm alright," Ye Sunuan replied with an apologetic smile, feigning strength. "When you left the birthday party... I thought... you didn't want me anymore..."

The hint of loss and vulnerability in Ye Sunuan's eyes struck a chord in Murong Yu's heart. In that moment, he forgot about Ye Suhee, who was in the hospital room facing a critical situation, and pulled Ye Sunuan into his arms, whispering words of comfort, "Silly girl, how could Mr. Yu ever not want you?"

This woman, who was willing to give her life to be with him, moved Murong Yu deeply. Even though he thought Ye Sunuan's actions were foolish, he couldn't help but be touched.

Ye Sunuan snuggled contentedly in Murong Yu's embrace, her gaze shifting to the operating room. A flicker of malice passed through her previously clear eyes. "Ye Suhee, let's see how you'll compete with me now! You can't even save your own child."

Ye Sunuan felt as though fortune was on her side.

Inside the operating room, Ye Suhee lay unconscious, a tiny life slipping away. Outside, her husband was tenderly entwined with her sister, a scene dripping with irony.

The surgery dragged on, and Ye Sunuan didn't dare suggest that Murong Yu leave. She resolved to stay by his side, waiting. Soon after, Luo Yu and Ye Shengcheng arrived.

"Murong, how is Hee doing?" Ye Shengcheng asked, his discomfort evident, knowing that the child was lost because of his own actions.

"She's still in surgery, and we've lost the baby," Murong Yu responded coolly, carefully managing his demeanor towards Ye Shengcheng.

Luo Yu sensed the tension between them and suddenly addressed Ye Sunuan, "Nuan, you're injured. Why have you been waiting here all this time?"

"Mom, I just wanted to make sure that my sister was alright," Ye Sunuan replied, shaking her head to indicate she was okay.

The operation was a success.

"You're in this condition and still concerned about your sister?" Luo Yu sighed, unsurprised to see Murong Yu's immediate concern for his daughter.

"Nuan, you should go back and rest," Murong Yu urged, not wanting Ye Sunuan to overexert herself.

"No, I want to stay with you..." Ye Sunuan firmly shook her head, glanced at Ye Shengcheng, and added, "to wait for sister."

Ye Suhee's strong and stubborn nature was exactly what made Ye Sunuan appear vulnerable in her father's eyes, leading Ye Shengcheng to naturally feel more protective of his younger daughter.

"We'll wait together," Ye Shengcheng said with silent approval of Ye Sunuan's thoughtfulness and affection. He took a seat, his concern evident.

Luo Yu, feeling helpless, joined him in waiting for the operating room's red light to turn green.

The hospital's operating room was a place of profound joy and deep sorrow. The four of them sat there, watching as patients were wheeled out—one by one, some safe and sound, others draped in silence. Tears and laughter intermingled, a complex tapestry of human emotion.

Murong Yu, though outwardly composed, was inwardly consumed with anxiety. The sight of other patients only heightened his fear... wondering if Ye Suhee would be the next to emerge, shrouded in white.

His fists clenched involuntarily as his gaze remained fixed on the operating room's light.

Ye Sunuan, biting her lip in secret, hadn't anticipated Murong Yu's deep concern for Ye Suhee. Observing her exhausted parents at the other end, she leaned against Murong Yu's shoulder and murmured,

"Perhaps it would have been better if this child hadn't been born."

Murong Yu, startled by her comment, turned to her with a look of shock and asked, "What did you say?!" That was his child she was talking about!

Before Ye Sunuan could respond, the lights in the operating room shifted colors. The doors swung open, and a team of doctors and nurses wheeled Ye Suhee out.

"Doctor! How is my daughter?" Ye Shengcheng sprang to his feet, his voice laced with urgency as he approached.

Murong Yu, too preoccupied to ponder Ye Sunuan's earlier words, rose swiftly to meet the doctor. Before he could inquire about the situation, the sight of Ye Suhee's pale and wan face struck him. His heart clenched tightly, and he struggled to catch his breath.

"The patient is out of danger, but unfortunately, the child could not be saved," the doctor responded calmly.

"As long as she's alright, that's all that matters," Ye Shengcheng replied with relief. But no sooner had he spoken than Luo Yu nudged him, prompting him to realize his faux pas.

"It's just... my grandchild," he added with a parched throat, under Murong Yu's disapproving gaze.

"The patient is weak and needs to remain in the hospital for proper care. Please prepare to look after her," the doctor advised, then directed a nurse to wheel Ye Suhee back to her room.

Without a moment's hesitation, Murong Yu followed swiftly, with Ye Shengcheng close on his heels. This left Ye Sunuan and her mother momentarily rooted to the spot.

"Mom! Did you see Mr. Yu's reaction?" Ye Sunuan complained, dropping her facade as soon as they were out of earshot.

"What's there to worry about?" Luo Yu reassured her with a smile. "Yu loves you. Even if Ye Suhee were to pass away, she wouldn't cause any ripples."

"But Mr. Yu seemed so concerned..." Ye Sunuan wasn't questioning Murong Yu's affection for her, yet she couldn't help feeling uneasy.

"He's concerned about the child that was lost. After all, that was his own flesh and blood," Luo Yu soothed her further.
