C17 No Danger Period!
"Dad, join us for breakfast. Later, we can go up together to see Sister," Ye Sunuan said with a worried expression to Ye Shengcheng, showing her sisterly concern for Ye Suhee.
"I've already eaten, Nuan. You two go ahead with breakfast; I'll go check on Hee first," Ye Shengcheng replied, not pressuring them. He was well aware of the tension between Ye Suhee and the others, and deep down, he was more inclined to support Ye Sunuan and Murong Yu.
Upon reaching the Obstetrics and Gynecology floor, Ye Shengcheng was stopped by a nurse who had been part of Ye Suhee's emergency care the day before and recognized him.
"Excuse me, sir, are you a relative of Ye Suhee?"
"Yes, I'm her father. How is Hee doing?" Ye Shengcheng had assumed the nurse was kindly reminding him, but she emerged from the station with a furrowed brow.
"Ye Suhee is still in critical condition and needs someone by her side. How can you leave her all alone? We nurses even had to buy her breakfast today." The nurse, typically not involved in personal matters, felt compelled to speak up since they had already advised that Ye Suhee needed care and yet she was left unattended.
Ye Shengcheng offered the nurse an apologetic smile and said, "Thank you for your help. We will make sure she's well taken care of."
After receiving his promise, the nurse returned to her station, unaware of the turmoil Ye Shengcheng was experiencing.
Despite his lack of affection for this daughter, it didn't mean he could be so callous as to neglect her.
As he pushed open the door to the ward, Ye Shengcheng's eyes immediately found his daughter, curled up on the bed. The untouched breakfast bought by the nurse sat on the cabinet beside her.
A wave of sorrow washed over Ye Shengcheng.
"Hee..." he began, his voice laden with concern that he struggled to express. He called out to his daughter, but the words caught in his throat.
Hearing her father's voice, Ye Suhee turned over. In just one day, her once perfect facial features had noticeably hollowed. Her eyes were bloodshot and swollen from prolonged crying, revealing her distress.
"Dad?" Ye Suhee's swollen eyes blurred her vision as she struggled to make out the figure at the door, calling out softly.
"Hee!" Ye Shengcheng, hearing the name, hurried to her bedside. Now that Luo Yu wasn't there, he didn't need to guard his demeanor. "The nurse mentioned you skipped breakfast, is that right?"
"I can't stomach it." Ye Suhee's voice was barely above a whisper, each word seeming to be laboriously pushed out from deep within her throat.
"It's all my fault! I was too impulsive!" Despite Luo Yu's defense yesterday, Ye Shengcheng knew it was ultimately his actions that had endangered his unborn grandchild.
Ye Suhee managed a weak smile. She had never held any resentment towards Ye Shengcheng.
She and her mother had always struggled to be accepted by the Ye family. Ye Shengcheng had been caught in the middle of her, Luo Yu, and Ye Sunuan for years, and it hadn't been easy for him.
Moreover, yesterday's incident was truly a victory for Ye Sunuan's scheming. If Ye Shengcheng had known about her pregnancy, he surely wouldn't have acted as he did.
"Dad, Hee doesn't blame you." Ye Suhee was too weak to say much, but the words she did manage to utter were resolute.
At last, Ye Shengcheng's eyes reddened, and he bowed his head in silence.
Hee was so inherently kind; why couldn't they see that?
"Dad, what's wrong?"
The silence in the ward was pierced by a crisp female voice. Ye Suhee looked up to see a glowing woman at the door – none other than Ye Sunuan.
Ye Sunuan, along with Murong Yu, had come up after breakfast. She wasn't rushing to see Ye Suhee out of concern, but rather out of fear that Ye Suhee might say something inappropriate to their father, prompting her to quickly bring Murong Yu along.
Ye Shengcheng discreetly wiped his eyes before turning to Ye Sunuan and saying, "Dad's fine."
Ye Sunuan remained unconvinced.
Murong Yu walked in behind Ye Sunuan, taken aback by Ye Suhee's condition. She had been so frail leaving the operating room the day before, but now, after just one night, she looked as though she was on death's door, utterly devoid of vitality.
Ye Suhee's eyes moved from Ye Sunuan to Murong Yu, but her gaze was fleeting and icy.
For some inexplicable reason, Murong Yu felt a twinge of guilt.
Unperturbed by her circumstances, Ye Sunuan approached the hospital ward with composure and stood beside Ye Shengcheng. She looked down and inquired, "Sister, are you feeling any better?"
Ye Suhee kept her gaze fixed elsewhere, ignoring Ye Sunuan without a word.
"Dad, look at Sis..." Ye Sunuan lamented to Ye Shengcheng.
