C18 Icy Coldness!

Ye Shengcheng gently patted Ye Sunuan's hand and said softly, "Your sister isn't feeling well right now, Nuan. Please be a little patient."

Then, he turned to Murong Yu and entrusted him with a task, "Murong, please take care of Hee."

To anyone else, Ye Shengcheng's instructions might have seemed routine, but Murong Yu perceived a hint of caution in his tone.

"Dad, I'll take good care of her," Murong Yu assured him.

Having been emotionally overwhelmed earlier, Ye Shengcheng no longer felt the need to put on a facade in front of Ye Sunuan after Murong Yu's arrival. Claiming he had other matters to attend to, he left the room, and the air in the ward grew heavy and somber in his absence.

Murong Yu had no intention of speaking, but Ye Sunuan, with a look of pity, turned to Ye Suhee and said, "Sister, it's such a shame about your child."

Ye Suhee remained silent, her heart numb from Murong Yu's indifference and the agony of her loss, a grief she bore alone. No matter how Ye Sunuan tried to stir her, Suhee's heart remained still.

Murong Yu was unaccustomed to Suhee's detached demeanor. Even in the face of past adversities, she had always fought back fiercely. Now, all he could see was her gaunt profile.

Casting a significant glance at Murong Yu, Ye Sunuan took a seat in the chair recently vacated by Ye Shengcheng. Without waiting for any reaction from Suhee, she murmured, "Sister, I've always said that Mr. Yu and I are the perfect pair. Why do you persist with him? Look at the mess now."

It seemed as if Ye Sunuan was suggesting that Suhee was to blame for her own misfortune.

"This situation is putting Dad in a very uncomfortable position," Ye Sunuan added. Then, reaching out, she grasped Suhee's hand in a seemingly casual yet threatening manner, "Sister, you should step aside. Even the gods disapprove of your claim on Mr. Yu."

Feeling the firm grip on her hand, Suhee let out a weary sigh and slowly turned to face her sister.

Upon meeting Suhee's gaze, Ye Sunuan recoiled in fear and quickly withdrew her hand.

Ye Suhee's eyes were a vision of beauty, with slightly upturned corners that exuded a flirtatious charm. Her gaze was usually clear, bright, and resolute. But now... Ye Sunuan felt as though she had plunged into an icy pool.

The sparkle had vanished from Ye Suhee's eyes, leaving behind nothing but an endless chill.

Upon seeing Ye Sunuan withdraw her hand, Ye Suhee remained silent, simply shifting her gaze to Murong Yu.

"Do you feel the same?" she asked, her voice tinged with disbelief. "Even after I just lost our child?"

A profound sense of doubt lingered amidst the coldness.

Murong Yu cleared his throat, meeting Ye Suhee's gaze. He found it absurd to feel a twinge of guilt; after all, he thought of her as nothing more than a venomous serpent. Why should he feel guilty?

"Nuan is being discharged from the hospital today, and I won't have time to look after you. You should be discharged today as well," Murong Yu stated. He didn't bring up a breakup, but his words cut deeper than if he had.

Ye Suhee's brow furrowed.

The pain in her abdomen was excruciating as the anesthesia wore off, especially when the medication to help with blood expulsion was administered. The nurse had emphasized that morning the importance of resting and continuing hospital observation. And now, Murong Yu was insisting she be discharged?

Overhearing Murong Yu's suggestion, Ye Sunuan couldn't hide her smugness. To her, Ye Suhee was nothing more than an accessory. "Exactly, the hospital can't compare to the comfort of home. Sister, you should come home with me," she chimed in.

Ye Sunuan was well aware that Ye Suhee was in no condition to be discharged, but she also knew the hospital couldn't override the wishes of family. Once home, Ye Suhee's recovery would be unlikely.

The thought of Ye Suhee enduring suffering brought a nearly audible laugh to Ye Sunuan's lips.

Meanwhile, Ye Suhee's hands clenched into fists as she fought to contain the surge of resentment within her. Suddenly, she closed her eyes, and the icy pool seemed to recede, leaving behind only her quivering lashes.

Realizing Ye Suhee was determined to ignore them, Ye Sunuan stood and purposefully walked over to Murong Yu, looping her arm through his. Her crisp voice reverberated through the ward, piercing into Ye Suhee's ears.

"Mr. Yu, could you accompany me to handle the discharge paperwork? Nuan can't manage it on her own."

"Of course, I'll be by your side the entire time."

"You're the best, Mr. Yu."

"I'm only the best for you."

Their cheerful voices slowly faded into the distance. It was quite some time before Ye Suhee finally opened her eyes.

The ward returned to its previous stillness, yet Ye Suhee was grateful for the quiet.

She couldn't fathom how much Ye Sunuan had influenced Murong Yu, to the point where he could be so unfeeling. His recent behavior puzzled her.

The memories from before she lost consciousness were clear in her mind. She vividly recalled the look of concern on Murong Yu's face and the care in his eyes. She was certain of what she saw; in moments of crisis, one truly understands who cares for them.

He had shown that he cared.

Why then, in the span of a single night, could Murong Yu so easily dismiss the genuine emotions he had shown?

Ye Suhee felt a pang of self-loathing, realizing that despite how she'd been treated, she still harbored hope for Murong Yu.

When Murong Yu attempted to process Ye Suhee's discharge, he met with staunch refusal.

"Mr. Murong, are you joking?" Ye Suhee's attending physician asked incredulously. "Your wife suffered a significant hemorrhage just yesterday. Her uterus is still healing; she absolutely cannot be discharged at this time!"

Murong Yu was momentarily at a loss for words. He had his reasons for wanting Ye Suhee discharged.

Firstly, it would spare him the constant trips to the hospital, and secondly, it would prevent the news from spreading. The Murong family was prominent in the city, and his personal life was frequently the subject of tabloid speculation. If word of Ye Suhee's miscarriage reached the press, it would surely alarm his grandfather, and the fallout could be severe.

"Doctor, we have a family physician who can adequately care for Suhee at home," Murong Yu insisted, not ready to abandon his plan.

"What is your family physician's area of expertise?" the attending physician pressed, unyielding. The news about Ye Suhee had already circulated through the hospital the previous night, and he was well-informed. Though his expression remained composed, his opinion of Murong Yu was far from favorable.

Murong Yu remained silent as the doctor went on, "The patient's condition is not fully stable yet, and she could be at risk at any moment. I recommend that she continues her hospital stay. Otherwise, if an emergency arises, it might be too late to bring her in."

The attending physician's warning was not to be taken lightly. After some consideration, Murong Yu relented. Although he despised Ye Suhee, he didn't wish for her demise.

Upon leaving the doctor's office, Murong Yu made a call to the housekeeper at the Murong family residence, instructing him to find someone reliable and skilled to provide daily care for Ye Suhee.
