C5 The interview

CHAPTER 5

Anna's POV

"Claire?" I called as I enter inside the apartment, noticing Claire's absence. "Claire?" I start getting worried as my calls are met with no reply. I made my way to her bedroom seeing the door half opened. I notice her sitting in front of her canvas with headphones on.

"Gosh you scared me, I have been screaming your name yet you didn't reply" I say. " Sorry," she replies, raising her head to look at me. Just then I notice her teary red eyes, indicating she has been crying for a while now.

"what happened? Who hurt you??" I say worriedly.

" It's nothing... don't worry about it" she smiles almost forcefully. "what do you mean it's nothing?? they are tears all over your eyes!!, ohh-" I cut off after noticing what was on her canvas. I knew she still feels incredibly attached to her mother which makes her tear up any time she tries to complete the painting of her portrait.

I pulled her into a bear hug, which I know she needed right now. She sniffles. "It's okay bestie, I understand now" I say already getting emotional.

"Don't you dare cry too" she warned laughing. I'm glad she isn't really sad. "don't worry I won't" I joined her in laughter. " By the way I think I have something to cheer you up more" I continued. "What is it?" she asks excitedly.

"Well… there is a job available for a personal assistant" I say smiling.

"Really?" she replied with her eyes already glowing.

"In Knights Industry, Mr Knight is in need of a new personal assistant. Gosh you will be so lucky to get a job at Knights Industry! I heard their pay is huge!"

"I'm so excited! I hope I get the job" She says grinning. "When is the interview?"

"On Monday, by 10am. I suggest you go there at 9am, it's going to be really crowded considering how famous the company is" I tell her.

"Damn! I'm worried now" she says nervously. "Ohh don't be, I know you're going to get the job" I encourage her.

"Thanks Anna"

"Don't worry about it, that's what best friends do" I say brightly. "We are going to go shopping over the weekend for your interview on Monday," I continued.

"Yeah, maybe I can get a new makeover also," she says.

"For sure! gosh I'm so excited" I reply.

********Sunday Evening********

Claire's POV

Anna and I were back home after shopping for hours. I'm really glad I got new work clothes since I had none. I got a few other casual clothes also. Now I'm really tired.

Since I have an interview tomorrow at Knights Industry, I wanted a really good sleep. The last thing I needed was to have an attitude first thing in the morning because of lack of sleep.

I lay my head on my comfy pillow and got under the warm covers. I turned to my side to get more comfortable. I finally closed my eyes and welcomed sleep.

******************

"RING, RING!"

The sound of my alarm going off beside me wakes me up immediately. I fumble to find the alarm clock sitting on my bedside table, I turn it off immediately my fingers make contact with it, silencing the loud annoying sounds.

I start to get comfortable again in my bed welcoming the sweet invite of sleep.

"Shit" I jolted up quickly after remembering what today was. I looked at the time, it started at 7:30. So I had slept 30 minutes past the time I had initially planned to wake up since I went back to sleep after the alarm had woken me.

I quickly jumped out of the bed trying not to get tangled with my sheets. I rush to my bathroom, strip my nightgown off and freshen up as fast as I can. After I was done with my shower, I wrapped my towel around my body and dried it off.

Thankfully I had already picked out what I was going to wear for the interview a day before. It was a plain white button up shirt and a black pencil skirt that stopped just above my knees.

I put on a set of matching black bra and panties, then wore my clothes for the day. I applied a little bit of makeup and accessories to brighten up my look. I had my hair straightened down since I didn't feel like packing it up today.

I stared at the mirror feeling satisfied with my overall look. I took a quick glance at the clock, it was already eight thirty. "what??!" I basically screamed. I ran out of my room hoping to get a really quick breakfast before leaving for my interview.

"Breakfast is ready," Anna says. "You're such a life saver, I thought you would still be sleeping since your work doesn't start until 10" I say as I start to eat quickly.

"Slow down Claire" she chuckles. "and I know you won't have time to make a proper meal this morning so I decided to do it" she smiles.

I quickly finished my meal and ran out of the apartment. "Good luck!" Anna shouted as I left. It was already 8:50, just in time for the second bus to arrive. After getting settled in my seat in the bus, I try to calm myself down while mentally preparing myself for the interview. I do a once over check on my files just to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Not long after I arrived at Knights Industry. To say it was a beautiful sight would be any understatement. It was huge and so luxurious, I could definitely tell the owner of this company was really rich. No wonder Anna says I would be really lucky if I get a job here.

Remembering I wasn't as early as I planned to be, although I wasn't late made me walk really fast through the entrance of the building. I am honestly really impressed by it.

I noticed a receptionist just next to the entrance so I made my way towards her.

"Hello" I say as professional as I could.

"How can I help you?" The receptionist tells me not even bothering to look up from her computer screen. Rude much… but I guess she's just really busy.

"I'm here for an interview" I say trying not to let my distaste towards her show.

"Just go down the hallway, you would see an elevator there. The interview is on floor 52" she says dismissively with annoyance clearly written on her face. Okay... definitely rude, I rolled my eyes at her showing her just how annoyed at her I was too.

Luckily, the elevator wasn't hard to find. I clicked on the floor I was going to then waited patiently for it to get there.

The elevator opened showing a massive work space filled with people who I believe are also her for the interview. What the heck? I thought I was early by coming at nine o'clock for a ten o'clock interview. Well...I guess not.

I sat down and quietly waited for the interview to start, observing all the other people waiting to be interviewed. I notice there are more females here and can't help but feel intimidated by them.

Soon after the interview starts and gradually my hope of getting the job decreases after noticing the expression on the faces of people coming out of the interview room. Somewhere even close to crying!

"Claire Williams" I hear my name being called by a middle aged woman, indicating it was my turn to be interviewed. She leads me to the office, she opens the door and asks me to walk in. I followed her instructions and walked in, noticing as she closed the door right behind me, making me feel a bit uneasy.

The office is massive, with everything so organized I was afraid to touch anything worried I would spoil something accurately, aware that it would probably cost a fortune.

*cough*

The sound of someone clearing their throat immediately brings my attention to the middle of the office. I immediately froze. It was him! the guy from the club. I couldn't stop staring at his Godlike features, still as handsome as I remembered. Just expect it was no longer a seductive look he has in his shiny green eyes, it was strict and business like. He looked so masculine I couldn't help but notice.

"Ms. Williams?" a loud voice snaps me

out of my day dream.

"I'm sor-ry Sir, I was-" I stutter.

"Take a seat Miss Williams, I don't have all day" he interrupts curtly, pointing to the chair opposite him. I notice no trace of recognition in his cold eyes. Well I did change my look drastically that night, but I didn't expect him not to recognize me.

I quickly take a seat, clasping my hands together to stop my nerves.

"Well let's start the interview," he says, going through my files. "Do you have any work experience as an assistant?"

"No I don't, I just graduated two months ago with a business degree. I chose this field from the beginning because I was intrigued by it. I know I'm capable of handling this job, so I believe I would be able to fit in properly for the job" I say confidently.

"I'm impressed by your confidence Ms. Williams"

"Thank you sir" I say, feeling my hope rise again. I would really be heartbroken if I don't get the job. I shook the negative thought away as I patiently waited for his conclusion.

"You are dismissed" he says curtly.

I blinked in utter disbelief. "That's all?" I am really confused. "I believe I already dismissed you right?" he says, raising one eyebrow.

I still stay sitting, thinking I probably heard wrong. He just continues his work like I wasn't even there. "Tell the rest of the people outside to go back, I won't be taking any more interviews. I have so much pending work now" He says into the phone, completely ignoring my presence.

I feel so sorry for the others outside, they have been waiting all morning. Now they are being sent away without getting a chance to be interviewed. How heartless could this man be.

Noticing he was being serious about my dismissal, I picked up my purse from the ground and marched towards the door with a scowl on my face.

Before I could leave his office I was called to halt by his loud husky voice. "You would get a phone call before the end of the day if you are accepted for the job"

I replied with a simple nod and left his office quickly, already feeling annoyed by his mere presence. I guess getting quality sleep didn't help me feel less cranky today.

I stepped into the elevator and pressed on the 1st floor. I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. Being in a closed place with Mr Knight made me way too nervous. I close my eyes as I rest on the wall of the elevator waiting to get to the first floor.

As I walk out of the company, I notice the receptionist giving me a dirty look. Damn what is wrong with that woman. I give her a dirty look too and walk confidently out of the place.

I slumped into the back seat of the cab reflecting on what just happened. My chances of getting the job was close to zero, considering how Mr Knight acted.

"Wow" I say softly to myself.
