As Ann ambled through the dark foyer, her eyes beginning to adapt to the darkness, she could now see that it was quite unnaturally isolated and she

wondered where the hall would lead to. Ann considered going back to the gathering but recalled that Mr James may be asking after her at the party.

She saw a figure striding towards her, and she chose to ask for directions from the stranger
