C2 Don't Get a Divorce

"Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous! What's wrong with being with Wanwan? Aren't you satisfied?" Qin Weiming's furious voice boomed from inside the room. "This news is causing such a stir, even the company is in chaos. What exactly do you want?"

Nian Wanwan pushed open the door just in time to see Qin Yanting's tall figure turned away from her. His voice was calm and steady, "There's nothing between us—and there's no real connection."

Qin Weiming's anger was palpable as he looked past Yanting to Wanwan, his voice rising, "Wanwan, is what he says true?"

Wanwan hesitated, and Yanting turned to face her, his eyes holding a deeper meaning.

So... was she being dragged into this mess too?

Wanwan offered a gentle smile, "Dad, please calm down—"

"Don't give me that! Is it true you two have no feelings for each other?"

"It must be true, or why else would there be no children by now?" came a sharp voice. Qin's mother descended the stairs, her expression stern. "If that's not the case, then it's her fault for not being able to conceive!"

"Mom!" Qin Weiming's face darkened as he instinctively defended Wanwan, "This isn't Wanwan's fault."

"You're still defending her? She must be seeing someone else!" Qin's mother raised her voice, her eyebrows furrowing. "Does she think our family isn't good enough for her? Her own family fell apart, and now she wants to ruin ours too?"

"Shut up!" Qin Weiming's anger flared as he growled, "How can you say such reckless things?"

"Dad, we really don't have any feelings for each other, and," Wanwan clenched her fists, her eyes sharp but her smile calm and sweet, "we've been divorced for quite some time now."

Wanwan's words exploded like a bomb in the Qin household. She only remembered that before Qin Weiming could fly into a rage, Yanting had already ushered her out the door.

There was no denying that Yanting was a good man. If their marriage hadn't been one of convenience, she might have actually fallen for him.

Wanwan sat in the car waiting for Yanting. It took about half an hour before he managed to clean up the mess at home. By then, she was organizing the files she needed for the next day.

"You're working so hard, are you trying to take over everything at the company?" Yanting teased with a smile as he started the car.

"If I were you, I wouldn't be so cheerful," Wanwan snapped her laptop shut and turned to him, asking seriously, "How did you manage it?"

"Just told the folks a few comforting lies," Yanting replied vaguely. "They won't really believe we're divorced."

Wanwan frowned; she had expected as much.

"So, how long do you plan to keep this under wraps?" She looked at him intently. "I don't mind, but what about your mom and Qingqing? Can you keep it steady with them?"

The photo in the conference room—Wanwan didn't need to guess to know it was Qingqing's doing. Ever since they were kids, Qingqing and her mother, who never quite fit in, have been up to their tricks.

Since the Nian family faced a crisis last year, that mother and daughter duo have been scheming tirelessly to snag Yan Tine, the wealthy bachelor.

Yan Tine's brow furrowed at the mention of Qingqing's name, clearly displeased. "That was arranged by my mom."

Wanwan shrugged, indifferent. "You don't need to explain it to me."

"Wanwan—" Yan Tine suddenly hit the brakes, turning to look at her with a gentle gaze.

"Hmm?" Wanwan replied absentmindedly, her focus on the document she had just received.

"Can we not get divorced?" he asked, each word deliberate and sincere, so much so that Wanwan couldn't pretend to be engrossed in her phone anymore and had to look up.

"But we've already been to the courthouse," Wanwan replied with a faint, detached smile.

"We can remarry," Yan Tine said earnestly, locking eyes with her. "If my mom wants a grandchild, that's her business. Whether we have one is up to us. We can move out. I have a villa on the outskirts of the city, we could—"

"Yan Tine," Wanwan interrupted, meeting his gaze with calm composure, "I think you haven't forgotten why I married you in the first place."

Her implication was clear, and Yanting paused, a barely noticeable trace of disappointment flickering across his handsome face, yet he was somewhat unwilling to give up. "Wanwan, there's still a chance for us."

"We promised each other from the start not to interfere in each other's lives and to take what we needed. I'm really grateful for all the help you've given my family this past year, but I'm sorry."

Wanwan's words were crisp and left no room for negotiation.

Yanting fell silent as the car drove quietly to the restaurant. Just as they walked in, they encountered an unexpected guest.

Chenglin lounged elegantly in a leather seat, his companion was as radiant as a flower, bearing a slight resemblance to Wanwan. She wore a little black dress with lace accents, revealing her shoulders in a very alluring way.

"What a coincidence," Chenglin raised an eyebrow with a smile, though his tone suggested he had anticipated their arrival.

Wanwan's heart skipped a beat, and she glanced at Yanting beside her, unsurprised to see the serious expression on his face.

Chenglin and Qingqing really were an odd pair.
