C9 Don't Spend the Night with Him
Pei Chenglin seemed unfazed by the comment, casually scooping up a spoonful of soup and bringing it to her lips. "Want to try?"
Nian Wanwan had enough and slapped his hand away. The porcelain spoon clattered to the floor, shattering into pieces.
Chenglin's eyebrows furrowed slightly, and Wanwan was momentarily stunned. Before she could react, he grabbed her chin, pulling her close to him.
"Refusing a toast only to drink a forfeit, huh?" His voice was smooth and enticing, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
Wanwan's eyes widened in alarm. She recognized this as the calm before Chenglin's storm. She tried to push him away, but he held her firmly, controlling her movements. Chenglin took a sip of the soup, then pressed his lips to hers.
She let out a muffled protest, trying to break free, but Chenglin didn't give her the chance. He bit her lip gently, forcing the warm soup into her mouth, sealing her lips with his. She had no choice but to swallow, nearly choking in the process.
Chenglin's eyes darkened as he raised his hand. A flash went off, and Wanwan didn't even have time to dodge.
He finally let her go, satisfied as he looked at the photo on his phone.
Nian Wanwan gritted her teeth and angrily tried to snatch it away. "What exactly are you trying to do?"
Pei Chenglin effortlessly dodged her hand, his voice lazy, "Just posting a tweet. I'm sure everyone will find it interesting."
Between his long fingers was a snapshot of Nian Wanwan being kissed, her startled and upset expression paired with her frail appearance making her look pitiful.
"Do you like it? I've always been good at this," Pei Chenglin said casually, causing Nian Wanwan to grit her teeth in frustration.
He stood up, looking down at her. "Do you know what you need to do now?"
With no other options, Nian Wanwan picked up the bowl and drank the hot soup, sip by sip.
"Good girl..." Pei Chenglin's voice was soft, almost tender, as he gently tucked a stray lock of her hair behind her ear with his long fingers.
Nian Wanwan suppressed her discomfort, tossed the empty bowl aside, and then lay down, tightly closing her eyes.
Three whole days passed.
Qin Yanting occasionally stopped by, but most of the time, it was Pei Chenglin in the hospital room, silent and without interaction. He either handled business matters or read documents and made phone calls, seemingly unconcerned about Nian Wanwan's presence.
Nian Wanwan later learned that Pei Chenglin's collaboration with Qin's had suddenly surged with orders. Although more was better, this particular order was urgent and demanded high quality, making those few days tough for Qin Yanting.
After a few grueling days, Nian Wanwan was finally discharged from the hospital in the evening. She was eager to breathe the fresh air outside, as spending every day with Pei Chenglin was almost suffocating. However, her joy lasted less than five minutes before the man beside her shattered her pleasant daydreams.
"Shall we go together?" Pei Chenglin asked, a slight, cool smile playing on his lips.
Nian Wanwan's face fell. "No need, I can call a cab."
"Hmm?" Pei Chenglin's voice had a teasing lilt, followed by a chuckle. "Well, maybe I should check my social media—"
"Fine, I'll go!" Nian Wanwan quickly changed her tune, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation as she walked to Pei Chenglin's car, opened the door, and got in with swift movements.
As Pei Chenglin got into the car, Nian Wanwan's phone rang almost simultaneously. She hesitated for a second, but his large hand snatched her phone away.
"Qin Yanting, huh..." Pei Chenglin raised an eyebrow. "That's not exactly a loving nickname—"
"It's none of your business!" Nian Wanwan tried to grab her phone back, but he was quicker, pressing the answer button and putting it on speaker.
"Wanwan... are you out of the hospital?" Qin Yanting's voice sounded exhausted, possibly from drinking, as he slurred his words a bit. "Can you come pick me up?"
Nian Wanwan hesitated. The Qin family had a driver, and normally, Qin Yanting's affairs weren't her concern. Even if the driver was unavailable, the company had employees to handle such matters. But this was something Pei Chenglin couldn't find out.
"Uh... okay, where are you?" Her voice was a bit awkward, but Pei Chenglin didn't seem to notice.
Qin Yanting gave an address, and Pei Chenglin promptly ended the call without further ado.
"What are you doing?" Nian Wanwan was already upset, and now she was even more annoyed as she tried to retrieve her phone, but he didn't let go.
She looked up to see his face, calm and provocatively challenging.
"What do you want?"
"I'm taking you there."
Nian Wanwan bit her lip. "No need."
Pei Chenglin raised an eyebrow. "You're not allowed to stay overnight with him."
What?
"That's ridiculous. He's my husband!" Nian Wanwan scoffed with a mocking laugh. "Even though we had a past, I'm not shameless enough to cheat."
"You wouldn't dare," Pei Chenglin said with arrogant certainty.
Unable to outlast him, Nian Wanwan had no choice but to comply, as she had no other option.
