C17 Training Ground
“Okay, I get it now. Your shift lately was only based on your current emotion. And if you see or feel someone’s in danger, the beast responded.”
“Okay, that would be all for today. If you still want to learn more. The house is open for you anytime, Emir.”
I simply nodded my head and started the car heading back home. I got also a text from mom that she cannot stop by the grocery as she needs to stay will extend her shift till tomorrow.
Dropping Porter at the house so someone could watch over. Afterward, I went to buy some stocks for groceries.
After I went out of the store, I brought with me four plastics full of groceries. Two on my left hand and the other two were on the right.
I think I misled myself heading back to my car when I got out of the store as the cars parked were a bit different from the last time I remembered.
Perhaps because of the shift lately, I just forgot what floor I parked my car on.
“Damn it,” I mumbled.
Am heading to the other floor and looked throughout the place but only ended up being exhausted as I couldn’t find it.
I put down the four plastics and took of the car key out of my pocket and press the sound button.
There was an alarm disengaging chirping sounds but unfortunately, it was on the other floor.
Unfortunately, the bleaching soda in one of the plastics suddenly rolled over in the car.
“Oh, crap.” I groped trying to get the bleaching soda. To my surprise, it rolled over back and was already torn out by some claw marks.
There was a low growling afterward.
I noticed it was a wolf after I looked at the windshield and I immediately ran as fast as possible.
The wolf also kept following me.
I immediately hide from one of the cars parked. My heart was beating loudly as I breathed heavily. I touched my chest as even the slightest sound, a wolf could hear it.
After I got an idea, I jumped off to the cars to make their alarms wailing. In that way, the wolf couldn’t hear my heartbeat anymore.
When the cars were already wailing, I swiftly transferred and hide to another place.
I was trembling and panting and rolled my eyes at the back. It was at this moment that my phone was ringing.
“No. no, stops.” I gasp and took off my phone out from my wallet and switch it off.
There was a thudding sound behind the car I was hiding. When I rose up my head, someone just hardly grabbed and lifted my body.
He swiftly blows me off. I grunt and acknowledged it was Porter.
“You’re dead.” He said and jumped out of the car and helped me up.
“What the hell was that?” My face immediately wrinkled in frustration.
“Said we were gonna teach you more other than shifting, we didn’t say when.”
“You scared the crap out of me!” I raised my voice sharply.
“Okay, but I was fast, right?”
“Not fast enough.”
“But the car alarm thing, that was a bit of a strategy, right?”
“Till your phone rang.”
“Yeah, but that was… I mean…” I am catching up my breath heavily. “Would you just stop? Please?”
Porter slowly stopped from stepping and faced up his angry face at me.
“What happened the other night, Ina was almost getting hurt, and that was my fault. I shouldn’t have invited her to date in the park. I need you all to teach me how to control this.”
“Look, I am what I am since birth. You were raised by human beings. Teaching someone who’s raised to have some soft spot takes time. I don’t know if I can teach you, nor Rico or Cletisa.”
“But what do I have to do?”
“You have to get rid of distractions.” He immediately took off my phone.”See this?
It was Ina who called me lately.
“This is why I easily caught you want us to teach you? Get rid of her.”
“What, just because she’s a human and I am a wolf?”
He raised his hands and smashes the phone into the wall. It broke into pieces.
I only raised my hands into the back of my head, widened my eye and my mouth opened.
“You were getting angry? That’s your first lesson. You want to learn how to control this, how to shift, you do it through your anger, by tapping into a primal animal rage, and you can’t do that with her around.” He raised his voice.
“I can get angry.”
“Not angry enough! This is the only way we can teach you. Now, can you stay away from her? At least until after the full moon?”
I wagged my head sideways.
“If that what it takes.”
“Do you want to live? Do you want to protect your friends? Yes or no?”
“Yes. If you can teach me, I can stay away from her.”
“Then I think we agreed on that thing.”
Afterward, we went back to where I left the groceries and went home.
Early in the morning at the school.
“Stay away from Ina. Stay away from Ina.” I kept mumbling as I was heading to the room.
I suddenly see her at the stairs but I just turned around. It was at this moment that I saw Roger.
“Stay away from Roger. Stay away from Roger.” And I turned to the other way around.
“Hey, Clark, where is your hottie cousin?” Miya added.
“Oh, come on!” I frowned and wrinkled my forehead and went away.
When I got into the room, I saw Kevin, I rolled over my eyes and felt relaxed for a bit.
He slid his mouth. “So, when was your next practice with your "WW" thing?” He asked.
After the classes ended, we went out of the room.
“They want you to tap into your animal side and get angry?”
“All right, well, correct me if I’m wrong, but every time you do that, you try to kill someone, and that someone’s usually me.”
“I know. That’s what he means when he says they don’t know if they can teach me because I was raised by humans. I have to be able to control it.”
“Well, how are they teaching you to do that?”
“I don’t know. I don’t they do either because I am different to them, especially this beast inside me.”
Kevin twirled his head a three-sixty degree.
“Okay. When are you gonna see them again?”
“Just told me not to talk about it. Just act normal and get through the day.”
“When?” He patted my chest and faced me.
We stopped for a bit.
“He’s picking me up at the animal clinic after work.”
“After work. All right, well, that gives me to the end of the school day then.”
“To do what?”
“To teach you myself. Especially when tonight was a full moon.”
He patted my back and we went to the library.
Moreover, Ina and Miya were also there talking about some night over in Miya’s house tonight.
Immediately covered my face with the book I was holding when Miya stood up, so Ina won’t notice.
“I think the book’s making it more obvious,” Kevin said and turned his face to Ina. “Besides, she’s reading, anyway.”
I slowly closed the book and looked at Kevin.
“So did you come up with a plan yet?” I curiously asked.
“I think so.” He bites the apple he was holding.
“What is it? Tell me then?”
“Oh-oh, not yet. I’m gonna tell you later then.” He immediately stood up and got the book I was holding.
Ina suddenly noticed us leaving.
“Clark. Clark, wait up! I just want to apologize…”
She was not able to continue her words as Kevin and I walked so fast after knowing she’s following.
Moreover, Kevin, Porter, and I went out to the field. Kevin was bringing stuff with him, like several baseball balls, a batter, and heart rate monitoring.
“What is it for?” Porter curiously asked after he gets the baseball bat.
“Now, put this on.” He handed me something.
“Isn’t this one of the heart rate monitors for the track team?” Porter replied.
“Yeah, I borrowed it.”
“Temporarily misappropriated. Coach uses it to monitor his heart rate with his phone while he jogs, and you’re gonna wear it for the rest of the day.”
“Isn’t that Coach’s phone?” I furrowed in disbelief.
“That, I stole.” He looked at the bag beside him.
“All right, well, your heart rate goes up when you go wolf, right?”
“When you’re playing lacrosse, when you’re with Ina, whenever you get angry.
Maybe learning to control it is tied to learning to control your heart rate.
“Like the Incredible Hulk.”
“Kind of like The Incredible Hulk, yeah.”
“No, I’m like The Incredible Hulk…” I grinned.
“Would you just shut up and put the strap on?” Porter was getting bored.
I got the strap from Kevin’s hands and put it on my waist.
Kevin and Porter wrapped both my hands and feet with adhesive tape and put a blindfold into my eyes.
