C11 Braised Pork Is so Delicious
Sung Guodong, despite wanting to, couldn't find any new and interesting toys for Sung Zhu at the moment.
As the grandfather and grandson chatted and laughed on their way to the agreed-upon spot, they realized their acquaintance hadn't arrived yet, so they waited there.
"Ah, without a watch, it's hard to tell the time. He might be arriving soon though," Sung Zhu mused, finding the lack of a timepiece quite inconvenient. Judging by the position of the sun, it seemed like it would be soon.
"He's here. Let's head back."
They didn't have to wait much longer before the acquaintance arrived with the tractor. The ride back was just as bumpy as before, with the two of them seated in the back.
"Thanks a lot, brother."
"Don't mention it. But be careful not to be seen by others, this is... ahem."
Once they reached the commune, Sung Guodong expressed his gratitude, but the acquaintance seemed too embarrassed to finish his sentence.
Sung Zhu was curious; the man hadn't seemed this anxious when they were in the county. Why was he so nervous now? After inquiring, Sung Guodong revealed that the tractor wasn't actually the acquaintance's own, but belonged to the commune.
Sung Zhu understood the gravity of the situation. In this era, owning a tractor was as prestigious as owning a Lamborghini in the future!
"Zhu, we must keep this a secret," Sung Guodong cautioned as he adjusted his backpack. The man had done them a favor, and they couldn't repay his kindness by getting him into trouble. Of course, it wasn't a grave issue; it was common for tractor drivers to give lifts or help transport items for others.
Sung Zhu readily agreed.
The walk back from the commune was long, and Sung Zhu felt as though she hadn't walked much, but her calves were already starting to feel weak.
"Sweet Zhu, how about grandpa makes you some braised pork today? Would you like that?" Sung Guodong guessed that Sung Zhu was tired. She didn't want to be carried, so he tempted her with the promise of her favorite dish to distract her.
"Really? That's wonderful!" Sung Zhu perked up immediately at the thought.
She even felt her mouth watering in anticipation! She blamed it on the original owner's preferences. But then again, she had to admit that she had always been fond of braised pork, even in her previous life, and it had been ages since she'd last enjoyed it.
Sung Guodong kept Sung Zhu entertained throughout their journey, and she hardly felt fatigued.
"We're home! Zhu, you take a break. Grandpa will cook."
"Grandpa, I want to help. I can tend the fire!"
Sung Zhu believed she shouldn't just sit back and wait to be fed; she wanted to help Sung Guodong with the cooking.
"What a good girl, Zhu!"
Sung Guodong didn't turn down her offer, but he also made sure she didn't take on too much.
Sung Zhu's main contribution was to occasionally add a log to the fire while sitting by the stove.
After Sung Guodong had put away the items he brought home, he began to prepare the meal. It was a simple affair: corn biscuits. And the main dish was the braised pork that made Sung Zhu's mouth water.
"Grandpa, it smells amazing!"
Sitting by the stove, Sung Zhu inhaled the delicious aroma and couldn't help but admire her grandpa's culinary skills.
"Smells good, doesn't it? Make sure you eat plenty! My Zhu is too thin."
Sung Guodong worked swiftly, and soon the braised pork was ready. Sung Zhu breathed in the delicious scent; the braised pork smelled absolutely divine!
"Time to eat."
As Sung Guodong served some meat onto Sung Zhu's plate, she took a bite and felt immensely content!
"Grandpa, you eat too!" She wasn't about to be selfish, so she made sure to serve Sung Guodong as well.
The grandfather and granddaughter enjoyed their meal together, basking in the warmth of each other's company.
