C14 Stamp
Sung Guodong hadn't picked up on his granddaughter's odd behavior as he cheerfully chatted about Xin Jinzhou.
"Grandpa, this is really pretty."
Sung Zhu had no interest in discussing her "marriage prospects." After all, she was still just a child and not ready for such topics.
So, she casually picked up an envelope to play with and, pointing to the stamps, she commented with feigned innocence.
"Oh, these are stamps." Sung Guodong, oblivious to her tactic to steer the conversation elsewhere, responded with a chuckle.
"Stamps? What are they for?"
Sung Zhu, as if she had stumbled upon an exciting new toy, bombarded Sung Guodong with questions.
"My dear Zhu, stamps are..." Sung Guodong began, but then hesitated, unsure of how to explain.
Sung Zhu was young, unfamiliar with such things. Although he could write well, explaining the concept of stamps seemed challenging.
The problem was Sung Zhu's age and her inability to read; she might not grasp his explanation.
"What are they for?"
Sung Zhu flipped the envelope over, examining the stamps, when a bold idea struck her.
Stamps from this era held significant commemorative value! More so, certain stamps from this time were incredibly valuable!
In other words, they were worth a fortune!
She had inadvertently stumbled upon a new revenue stream! Beyond collecting blue and white porcelain, she could start gathering stamps!
"Stamps are like tickets, Zhu. If grandpa wants to mail a letter, he needs to buy a stamp," Sung Guodong finally offered a straightforward explanation.
But it hadn't occurred to him whether Zhu even knew what a ticket was.
Clearly, Zhu hadn't considered this either, her mind now racing with plans to amass more of these era-specific stamps!
Based on her limited memories from a past life, she recalled that certain stamps, like the monkey and map issues, became quite valuable over time.
"Oh? Grandpa, do you have any more stamps?"
Sung Zhu figured her grandpa must have more, likely from correspondence with comrades or others. She needed a strategy to secure these stamps and preserve them well.
"Do you like them?"
Without giving it much thought, Sung Guodong pulled open another drawer and retrieved a hefty stack of letters.
The rubber bands securing the credit letters were meticulously arranged, a clear indication of the elderly man's regard for the correspondence.
Upon laying eyes on the letters, Sung Zhu's eyes nearly sparkled with excitement! So many! She felt like she had struck it rich!
"Grandpa, these stamps are so pretty, can I have them?" she asked.
Reaching out to pick up a letter, Sung Zhu pointed to the stamps and gazed at Sung Guodong with hopeful eyes.
Sung Guodong had never considered that Zhu might be interested in his private matters; he simply found her request incredibly endearing.
"Of course, if Zhu likes them, they're hers," Sung Guodong readily agreed.
"Wow, thank you, Grandpa! I want them all! Can you get me an album? I want to collect them all," Zhu exclaimed with delight.
With a quick flip of her hands, Zhu spread the letters out like a fan and pointed excitedly at the stamps.
These stamps were no mere tickets; they were like little red treasures!
Sung Guodong was pleased to see her joy and had no objections. He even went the extra mile, procuring a large album for her and carefully transferring the stamps into it as she had requested.
