C17 Grandpa will Teach You

The salesperson weighed the items and announced, "That's about 1 jin, for 5 cents."

In the future, coins of 1, 2, and 5 cents would no longer be in circulation. It was surprising that 5 cents could still purchase so much.

Sung Zhu was delighted upon hearing this. While these items might seem worthless to others, to her, they represented a significant fortune!

Stamps featuring the chairman would be valuable in 20 years, with each potentially selling for hundreds of yuan. There were roughly 30 here, totaling a value of seven or eight thousand yuan.

Sung Zhu was brimming with excitement for the future, envisioning herself effortlessly becoming a wealthy woman.

She watched intently as her grandpa paid and carefully packed the items into a bag, feeling relieved only after everything was secured.

Along the way, Sung Guodong inquired if his beloved granddaughter wanted to purchase anything else. Zhu showed little interest in other items, politely declining any further shopping.

Nonetheless, before heading back, Sung Guodong decided to stop by the co-op to pick up some food and essentials, spending several yuan and a few coupons.

"Grandpa, let's wait for the bus; we have so many things."

This time, Sung Guodong hadn't brought his backpack, and Zhu felt a pang of concern seeing him carry so much.

"Okay."

Sung Guodong didn't mind the weight of the items; his primary concern was for Zhu, who was still young and for whom a long walk would be too strenuous.

Fortune smiled upon the duo as they managed to catch a passing bus after a short wait by the roadside.

However, once the bus reached the commune, it veered off towards another destination, meaning Sung Guodong and Zhu had to walk the rest of the way home.

"Zhu, do you like this book?"

Back home, Zhu meticulously organized her newfound treasures and found the perfect spots to store them.

Once finished, she cradled the book on traditional medicine and read with great interest.

"Yes, look at these illustrations, grandpa. They're so pretty."

Sung Zhu found the book's content to be straightforward and engaging. Eager to share her excitement with Sung Guodong, she then remembered she was an eight-year-old girl who hadn't yet learned to read. She could only express her admiration for the beautiful images.

"Oh, this is Angelica; it's really good stuff. And this here is goji berry, another great thing. They're all medicinal herbs," Sung Guodong said as he looked at the pictures.

Sung Zhu keenly noticed how naturally her grandpa spoke about these herbs, and he seemed to have a deep understanding of them.

"Grandpa, you're so knowledgeable! Are all these herbs medicines? Can you treat illnesses, too?"

She hadn't expected such a delightful surprise from her grandpa. He was truly impressive.

"Well, I studied with a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner for several years in the past. But then I joined the army and didn't continue my studies," Sung Guodong said, his gaze tinged with a hint of wistfulness as he reminisced.

Sung Zhu's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Could you teach me, Grandpa?"

TCM is a vast and intricate field!

Even though Grandpa had only studied it for a few years, his expertise in TCM seemed quite profound.

To have such a treasure trove of knowledge close at hand and not take the opportunity to learn from it would be foolish!

"Do you like it, Zhu?" Sung Guodong's eyes also brightened.

"Yes, Grandpa, could you teach me? It's a shame I can't write; I don't even know what it says."

Sung Zhu put on her most earnest face. Of course, she knew how to read—it was just a convenient excuse!

"Alright, if Zhu is interested, then I'll teach you! But first, we'll have to start with reading. Oh, and I have some books. Let me find them for you!"

Sung Guodong was overjoyed at the thought of his beloved granddaughter wanting to learn TCM. She was so thoughtful and intelligent!

Seeing her grandpa so pleased made Sung Zhu equally joyful.
