C5 A New Home

Astrid.

Her mind was still spiraling after the near-death experience that they experienced when they drove into the town. A big beast with silver hair ran past them but her dad dismissed it as a big town dog because the town was known for hunting probably a hunter's dog.

“Hey kiddo, get your head out of the clouds and grab a few boxes?” Her father said brushing past her.

“No, thank you.” Astrid walked past her parents looking as angry as ever.

“Astrid.” Her mother called out to her but she ignored it walking straight into the house, it was dark, very dark and she was unable to see what the outside looked like but she deduced that it was a two-story building, nothing compared to what they had before but it was a start, she put the lights on and her breath got caught in her throat.

The house was magnificent, there was a chandelier hanging right in the center, and it was like a mini palace.

She took a Step forward to see more…

“You like it?” Her moms asked standing behind her and she stopped smiling.

“It is manageable, where is my room?” She spun around slowly to face the mom and was fascinated by the wolf sculpture by the door.

“Is that real?” She walked over to it touching it gingerly.

Ever since she was a child, she had an unhealthy obsession with wolves, especially werewolves but her parents told her they were just fictions and don’t exist.

“Well, baby it is, and it is ours, let me show you to your room?” Her mom beckoned on her to follow her up the stairs which she did.

She placed her hand on the wood railing, it felt magnificent, it was an old house but it still looked exquisite, it was more than she expected, the walls were well painted, though she was unable to see the color.

“Why buy a huge house if it is just us three?” She asked as they passed different rooms.

“Well dear your dad and I never knew it’d be just three, and just so you know Griffin picked out this house, we wanted to surprise you, he was so sure you would love it.” She said throwing open the door to a room.

Astrid ignored her and walked into the room, she expected a half-hearted pink princess room like her mom always did but what she saw made her believe her mom’s last statement, only Griffin knew her true taste.

The room was painted dark blue just as she loved it with a touch of white paint as wall designs, they brought the nightlife into her room, and her bedpost was close to the widows where she could stand on the balcony anytime she wanted, she walked into the room and just looked around, her heart started to ache.

“He did this for me? Griffin? But when?” She sobbed looking at her mom with teary eyes.

“When his sickness started Astrid, he never gave up till his last breath, he kept on fighting and he wanted us to move down here when he got out of the hospital, he had designed your room and his as well, it is just, across yours and his things have being moved there, he wanted to surprise you and he wanted you to be happy, this was his final gift to us.” Her mom's voice cracked with the last statement and she walked out covering her trembling lips.

Astrid ignored her mom and walked to the window, she threw it open.

“Griffin, you idiot.” She wiped her tears, as she looked into the starry night, life as she knew it would never be the same anymore but it was a huge start.

Something caught her attention, a silver skin flashed in the bush below her house.

“Isn’t that the dog?” She asked looking into the forest to catch another glimpse of the dog again.

Ezra growled lowly as he stared at the human girl that just entered the town, he was going to go back home but something pulled him in this direction, he looked at her as she looked into the forest probably for him.

“A dog? Is that what you think of me?” H growled as an idea popped into his head “What if he scared her and..”

“You will do no such thing or I swear Ezra I will make sure you can’t walk straight for the next month !” A low warning burst into his mind.

“Trainer Jones?”

“If you want to take a run in the night, no one is stopping you but harming anyone human, Ezra!”

Feeling ashamed, he cast one last look at the girl with red hair before heading back home, with a vow to be back for her.

Unaware of what was happening below her, Astrid shut her window and walked back to her bed flopping on it.

“Oh, I feel so exhausted.” She sai

Mrs Luna walked up to her room, she covered her daughter up rustling her hair a bit before she closed the door behind her.

“Honey?” Mr Luna asked her.

“She is asleep,”

“Oh thank god, I thought she’d give us a hard time again tonight.”

“Well, I think that story about Griffin melted her heart.” Mrs Luna said following him to their room down the hall.

“Do you think it is a good idea, my love? Coming back here? Where it all started?”

“There is no safe place right now Adam, this is the only place they won’t look, it is bad enough that he inherited the wolf gene from me, I won’t have my daughter taken from me too!” She said with a grim resolve,

“No one is taking her honey but do you think this is safe, we live in a werewolf town, how do you think she won’t find out? You know what she is like” Adam asked her and she shushed him.

“Keep it down Adam you know how much of a light sleeper she is plus, who cares, she will never know anyway and Reginald can’t come here with Griffin, this is safe honey.”
