C12 She Wanted to Get a Divorce!

The child's voice was tender and compelling, their wails tugging at the heartstrings.

Xu Huanxi's tears fell silently and without restraint.

Chu Rusi was taken aback. Both the young and the old were in tears—should he force a couple of his own?

...Unbelievable!

Instinctively, he enveloped Xu Huanxi in a comforting embrace, gently patting her back.

Xu Yinuo, ever so composed, quickly stifled his sobs and stormed off to the bathroom, face clouded with anger.

Soon after, Xu Huanxi collected herself, her eyes still reddened as she turned to face the Old Ancestor. Her voice was soft, her smile sweet, but her words carried an undertone of menace, "Grandma, is there something you wanted to tell me?"

The Old Ancestor gestured with her fingers and pursed her lips, feigning innocence and adorableness. "Huanxi, I only meant to push you toward a reconciliation with Tunan. He was the only choice around you at the time, and I was sure you'd end up marrying him."

Alert the media! We've got a live broadcast of a grandmother duping her own granddaughter! Xu Huanxi fumed internally, but all she could do was massage her throbbing temples. What else was there to do? Hang her grandmother up and give her a thrashing?

She—she had married herself off because of her grandmother's little joke!

How could she have been so blind to her grandmother's scheme? The hospital's diagnosis was right there, after all. It's true what they say: worry makes a mess of things. And what a mess she'd made.

This couldn't go on.

Chu Rusi, reading Xu Huanxi's fluctuating mood, had a pretty good idea of what she was thinking—she was likely plotting to ditch him.

He took her hand affectionately and led her out, skillfully and thoughtfully deflecting for the Old Ancestor, "Grandma, we'll go sort out your discharge. My dear, we can talk more about this at home."

The Old Ancestor motioned for them to hurry. Her granddaughter's glare was murderous; she could feel a sickness coming on from fright alone.

Once outside the ward, Xu Huanxi pulled away from Chu Rusi's grasp and demanded, "What are you doing?"

"Discharging you from the hospital," he replied nonchalantly, hands sliding back into his pockets.

Xu Huanxi massaged her temples, feeling a headache coming on, and decided to cut to the chase. "My grandmother is fine, and I don't need a husband, got it? I'm about to spill the beans. Our deal is off."

Her words were sharp and unsparing.

Chu Rusi felt a twinge of pain in his heart, yet his expression remained gentle. "Are you certain your grandmother can handle the truth?"

Any elder would feel they had sinned, thinking that because of a careless remark, their granddaughter ended up caring for some random man and even got married!

"She had it coming!" Xu Huanxi seethed, her teeth practically grinding. She had dug her own grave with such ease; it was only fitting she lay in it.

Sensing her resolve, Chu Rusi folded his arms. "So, you're planning to walk away after stirring things up?"

She shot him a look. "Exactly, I am. Divorce!"

Divorce was a must; what else was he supposed to do, keep it as a holiday souvenir?

Today had been a day of absurdities for Chu Rusi. His first time being kept, his first marriage, and now he was on the brink of his first divorce.

He cocked his head to the side, his laughter unrestrained. "Xu Huanxi, what makes you think I'd agree to a divorce?"

Her mind whirled. She had... suddenly realized she might have just sold herself short. Chu Rusi, the handsome face who had finally landed a permanent gig and a marriage contract, wouldn't let go so easily.

She struggled to find the right words but came up empty. "..."

He reached out, took her hand, and their fingers intertwined. "You won't be at a disadvantage."

Tears welled up in her eyes, but she held them back. "...No, buddy, you're the one who's going to lose out."
