C13 Buy One Get One Free!

She was unequivocal: "Chu Rusi, I can't afford to keep you. I'll pay you every cent of our agreed-upon price, but please find your opportunities elsewhere."

Chu Rusi was about to respond when his phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, he turned to her with a grave expression, "Huanxi, I have an urgent matter and must leave. Please apologize to Grandma for me."

"Hey, wait—"

Damn, he's actually gone!

Xu Huanxi watched Chu Rusi's retreating figure with clenched teeth, feeling an indescribable irritation, like encountering a scam artist.

Rubbing her temples, she knew she couldn't disclose this issue yet. If Chu Rusi refused to divorce, her grandmother would be inconsolable, and as for Xu Yinuo... well, that child might just find someone to take care of Chu Rusi for good.

She convinced herself that patience was the best strategy, maintaining a facade while plotting in secret. With a heavy heart, she went to assist her ancestor with the hospital discharge.

Chu Rusi left the hospital, casting a backward glance with a slight smirk. He relished the fact that he now had a son and a wife, all without lifting a finger.

A car waited at the curb. Chu Rusi slid in, and his assistant Wen Qingfeng handed him some documents. "Vice President, here's Jiang Tunan's file."

Chu Rusi nodded, perusing the papers without a trace of emotion, then closed the folder and gave Wen Qingfeng a friendly pat on the shoulder. "Qingfeng, how long have you been with me?"

Wen Qingfeng, sensing the shift to a too-kind demeanor, braced for the worst. "Four years," he replied cautiously. "I've been with you since I graduated, even in the States, where you took me under your wing."

Chu Rusi nodded, then pressed a hand to his brow. "I'm going to tell you something, and if you laugh, you can go back to eating your own cooking."

"I won't laugh, I promise," Wen Qingfeng assured him gravely. Chu Rusi, though outwardly mild, had a reputation for being cunning. But no, he wasn't just cunning—he was downright diabolical.

No joke could ever be funny to him; it would only cast a shadowy pall.

Yet, Wen Qingfeng found himself eating his words, nearly bursting with suppressed laughter until his face turned a bright red. What... a ghost? Skincare, marriage? Hahaha... Chu Rusi, an almost mythical figure in the United States, stumbling like this?

Chu Rusi massaged his temples, a headache brewing. He gazed out the window and relented, "Alright, I won't give you a hard time. Go ahead and laugh if you want."

Wen Qingfeng's laughter boomed, his whole body shaking as if he were about to roll around in the car.

Chu Rusi's face reddened with embarrassment, prompting him to lower his voice and caution, "Tone it down."

Between chuckles and apologies, Wen Qingfeng's laughter grew heartier. "Sorry, I've been professionally trained to keep a straight face, but sometimes... I just can't help it, hahaha..."

It was a genuinely delightful moment.

Finally, when Wen Qingfeng had regained his composure, he asked earnestly, "Boss, what's your mindset here?"

"A wife and son thrown in for free—wouldn't it be a loss to pass that up?" Chu Rusi mused, hands clasped under his chin as if weighing a buy-one-get-one deal.

Wen Qingfeng couldn't grasp Chu Rusi's reasoning. A high-caliber bachelor like Chu Rusi had many who would gladly spend their last moments in his embrace. Moreover...

"Boss, you have a fiancée," Wen Qingfeng ventured cautiously.

Chu Rusi twirled his prayer beads nonchalantly and responded with a simple, "Oh."
