C1 Chapter one

In a top-notch office that was currently overwhelmed with fear and anxiety, Lara sage was handed a sanction letter.

" I'm sorry, this is beyond me the board members decided to kill the scandal this way." The manager of starlight modeling agency said.

This was what Lara feared the most a scandal was all it took to bring down a model like her. Who was she, a B-list model who earned little for the company? Although she had worked hard to reach this point she didn't expect her agency to keep her, she was nothing. She had won awards, and contracts and even covered most A-list models. At the age of twenty-three no B- list model was as accomplished as she.

Lara took up the letter and silently left the office. She was done.

She looked towards the empty secretary desk and a rush of hatred filled her heart. If she was not too trusting she won't have been in this condition in the first place. But she was too naive to believe that her closest friend could not harm a hair on her head. She was foolish.

She walked down to the elevator only to meet her worst enemy at the moment.

"Lara...". A slender young woman who was her age stepped out of the elevator.

Lara looks at her with rage visible in her eyes.

"I never thought this would happen. I..."

" You liar". Lara yelled at Melinda her supposed best friend who flinched away from her. She had never seen Lara so angry, after a fleeting minute, Lara's eyes turned calm but filled with anxiety. She held Melinda by her shoulders and searched for a little bit of hope in her eyes.

" Did you ever love me as a friend?.I just need your honest answer". Lara said.

Melinda looked down in defeat with a half cynical smile.

"No". She said and that was all Lara needed to hear. Just then, the elevator doors to open and Melinda took the liberty to admit her jealousy.

"You were too good". She said turning to face Lara.

"Everything was damn too easy for you. You got the looks, the cheers, fame, and riches, and all I did was sit and listen to you describe the fantasy I have always wished to live in. I sat on that damn table and did all the work and all you did was stand and take photos. That was hell".

She said with bitterness in her voice. Lara turned to look at her once she stepped into the elevator.

" Too bad I was too self-inclined to realize your jealousy. You acted fine to me". Lara said with a half-smile.

" And since I never noticed you I doubt that the world you wish for will notice you. You will always be a shadow. A shadow that will always be forgotten and disposed of as trash after use. You are insignificant". Lara said before the elevator doors closed. Melinda's face turned black with bitterness making she throw her purse at the already closed elevator doors. She hated the fact that Lara was mocking her even after her down fall.

"I will show her that I'm better than her in many ways. This is only the beginning". Melinda said glaring at the elevator door.

Lara mindlessly walked out of the agency building. She was left all alone again even her manager couldn't approach her. Everyone stared at her from a distance like she some disease.

Dejection was a thorn to any celebrities life. Even her fans had turned against her criticizing every bit of her. She had no one to turn to her parents had long died when she three and her grandparents were recently deceased.

Now the world was against her they only solution she could think of was to disappear. To far away place where no one could ever hurt her or slander her reputation. Besides it was her fault, if only she had listened, if only she had stayed at her home...may she would have lived freely, ignorant of her best friend's jealousy. She got to the subway by foot hiding her face as entered the train.
