C11 He Would Change to Another Man!
Four students sat toward the back of the classroom. Rumor had it that the teacher would be calling on students at random today, so attendance was surprisingly high, with more than half the seats filled.
Once roll call ended and the lesson began, everyone drifted into their own activities. Some dozed off, others played on their phones, and a few had earbuds in, listening to music or watching shows.
Zhou Yan, a former roommate, looked exhausted as she slumped over her desk, turning her head toward Xia Shirann.
Xia Shirann chuckled at her and whispered, "Stayed up late again? It's barely morning."
Zhou Yan nodded lazily, her charming waves of hair covering half her face. She mumbled, "Yeah, I binge-watched the latest episodes of my favorite show last night. Now I'm out of things to watch."
Xia Shirann wasn't into celebrity fandoms, but she understood the passion, so she smiled and said, "Get some rest. You can copy my notes later."
Zhou Yan shrugged, "No need to take notes. I'll just cram before the exam. Anyway, you go ahead and study. I won't bother you."
With that, Zhou Yan turned away.
For a moment, Xia Shirann felt a bit lonely but quickly shook it off. She knew that in this "going nowhere" third-rate college, being serious about studies made her stand out as odd. But everyone has their own path, and Xia Shirann chose to stay true to herself, determined to carve out her own future.
Xia Shirann listened attentively to the lecture, and class time flew by. While taking notes, she happened to glance at Yang Mo, a student from the neighboring class sitting to her right.
Yang Mo came from a well-off family and was known for her good looks and frequent changes in boyfriends, making her one of the school's most talked-about figures. It was said that she attended this school because her family's business was inherited by her brother, so she didn't need to strive for success and could live a carefree life.
Just then, Xia Shirann noticed something pink peeking out of Yang Mo's bag as she rummaged through it—a pink box with the word "Mife..." visible. The name of a medication flashed through Xia Shirann's mind, but seeing Yang Mo laughing and chatting with the boy next to her, she decided to dismiss the thought and focus back on her notes.
The class ended quickly, and it was time for a specialized course. As Xia Shirann packed her bag, Zhou Yan cheerfully said, "Rann, you'll have to go to class by yourself! There's a sale at Uniqlo, and Lili and I are going shopping!"
"Okay, sure," Xia Shirann replied, watching her three roommates, all perfectly made up, leave the classroom chatting and laughing.
Thinking back to when they used to skip classes, she would remind them how important their major courses were. But as time went on, they continued to skip, and Xia Shirann eventually gave up on reminding them, deciding it was best to just focus on herself.
When Xia Shirann finished packing her bag and got up to leave, there were only a few people left in the classroom. She glanced around and noticed that most of them were the quiet, diligent students who always attended class.
Realizing she wasn't the only "odd one out," Xia Shirann felt a sense of relief, knowing she wasn't alone on this path.
On her way back to the department, she passed by the library and suddenly felt the need to use the restroom. The library was usually only crowded near exam time, so the first-floor lobby was quiet. As she entered the restroom, she heard the faint sound of someone crying in the stall next to her.
