Xia Shirann once watched an anime that left a lasting impression on her with a line: "The only places you can cry are in the bathroom or in your dad's arms." Unfortunately, her parents were long gone, so she could only hide in the bathroom or under the covers to cry when her emotions overwhelmed her.
Though she didn’t know what was happening with the girl in the next stall, she hoped the world would be a little kinder to every good-hearted girl. With that thought, Xia Shirann quietly left her stall and went to the sink. Just as she was about to turn on the faucet, the stall door behind her opened.
In the mirror, she saw Yang Mo emerge, her face streaked with tears. Initially surprised, Xia Shirann couldn’t help but feel concerned.
"Yang Mo? Are you okay?"
Xia Shirann turned to face her, noticing a box of mifepristone in the stall’s trash bin. The stall door closed, and Yang Mo looked uneasy, her brows furrowed defensively. "Who are you?"
"I'm in the same department, second class."
"Oh," Yang Mo replied flatly. They didn’t have much interaction before, but Xia Shirann’s words seemed to jog her memory a bit.
"I'm fine, I'm leaving." Without another glance at Xia Shirann, Yang Mo walked past her with an indifferent demeanor.
"Wait a minute!" Xia Shirann called out, just as Yang Mo reached the restroom door, grabbing her arm.
"What are you doing?" Yang Mo frowned, her face full of impatience.
Xia Shirann released her arm, staring at her slightly swollen eyes, and asked seriously, "What day is it?"
Yang Mo's pupils suddenly contracted, and she snapped irritably, "What day? I don't know what you're talking about!"
Xia Shirann's eyes were dark, her tone calm yet firm, as she quietly watched her. "How many days have you been taking mifepristone?"
Yang Mo's mind went blank, her brows furrowing tightly as she yanked at her bag strap. "What do you want? It's none of your business!"
Xia Shirann lowered her gaze, hiding the pain in her eyes.
"When you've finished three days of mifepristone, you must go to the hospital to take the misoprostol tablets to avoid any complications."
It was as if she had struck a chord deep within Yang Mo. She staggered back a step, her face turning pale. After a half-minute of silence, she tentatively asked, "Have you... taken it before?"
Xia Shirann looked down, silent.
Friendships between girls can be simple. When two people share a common emotional experience, a bond quickly forms. Especially when they've gone through the same or similar pain, like a secret crush, a breakup, or a miscarriage.
Yang Mo confided in Xia Shirann that today was her first day taking the medication. She understood that once she started, there was no turning back. Swallowing that pill meant she would inevitably lose the baby, with no chance of reversing the decision.
However, Shirann didn't mention her own experience with the medication at all.
To avoid missing their next class, Shirann and Yang Mo exchanged phone numbers and planned to have lunch together. Shirann then hurried off to her department for her major class.
During the lecture, she uncharacteristically didn't pay attention, sitting alone in the back row, lost in thought, her eyes filled with deep sorrow.
As if recalling something, Shirann took out a beautifully engraved bracelet with "Y&R" from her bag. She stared at it for a while, then suddenly pried off the letters with force, venting her emotions by breaking the entire bracelet into pieces.
Gazing at the completely destroyed bracelet, a heavy mist clouded Shirann's eyes, filled with an unshakeable sadness.
