C1 He Was Pregnant but Got Divorced

Cloud City's premier private hospital.

"Congratulations, Ms. Jiang, you're four weeks pregnant. Your health is a bit delicate, so you need to be careful. No intimacy for the first three months..."

She was pregnant.

Jiang Xinyue had come to the hospital for a thorough check-up because her period was late, only to discover she was already expecting.

This baby was conceived last month after Fu Shaochen's birthday when he got a bit too tipsy.

She vividly remembered that night. Fu Shaochen, inebriated, held her close and expressed his desire for her. Blushing, she gave herself to him completely.

Yet, the next morning, Fu Shaochen was as distant as ever, as if nothing had happened.

Now that there was a baby, maybe their relationship could improve?

Jiang Xinyue was thrilled and almost called him immediately to share the news.

Then she thought it would be better to tell him in person. After all, they'd been married for a year, and today was their first wedding anniversary. Sharing this surprise would surely make him happy.

She took out her phone and sent a text, "Shaochen, come home early tonight. I have something to tell you."

She soon received a reply, "Okay, I have something to discuss with you too." His tone was as cold as ever, but Jiang Xinyue felt delighted, thinking he might be planning an anniversary surprise for her.

Jiang Xinyue happily hurried home.

“Mrs. Rong, you don’t need to cook today. I’m taking over the kitchen because it’s my and Shaochen’s wedding anniversary.”

The housekeeper, Mrs. Rong, smiled and nodded. “Alright, alright, I’ll leave early to give you two some space.”

In the kitchen, Jiang Xinyue busied herself, remembering every dish Fu Shaochen loved. In their year of marriage, whenever Shaochen was home for dinner, she cooked for him, ensuring he ate what he liked. No matter how late he returned from work, she always waited up to go to bed together.

The staff in the Fu household all praised how well she treated Mr. Fu.

“Bang...”

“You’re back.” Jiang Xinyue heard the door close and peeked out.

A tall man approached, with chiseled features and deep, dark eyes. His expression was always calm, and he was strikingly handsome.

Jiang Xinyue had prepared a table full of dishes, complete with candles, hoping for a romantic candlelit dinner with Fu Shaochen.

“Try the squirrel fish I made today. See if it tastes authentic,” Jiang Xinyue said with a bright smile.

“Sure.” Fu Shaochen took a bite, and it was indeed delicious.

“By the way, you mentioned you had something to tell me when you got back. What is it?”

“Well, I’ll just say it. Let’s get a divorce.”

"Why...?" Xinyue's face turned pale, struggling to catch her breath. Her heart twisted in pain. She couldn't understand why Shaochen suddenly asked for a divorce. They got along well enough, they already had a baby, and they were about to become a happy family of three.

"Why? Why do you want a divorce?" Xinyue asked, her eyes wide with confusion.

"Because the person I want to marry, Ye Qingqing, is back," Shaochen replied coolly.

Ye Qingqing, the rising star in the film industry—Xinyue had even seen tabloid headlines about her: "Rising Star Spotted with Mystery Man at Night." She thought back to the nights Shaochen hadn't come home recently. Could it be...

She had foolishly thought he was working late, tirelessly dedicated to his job. She hadn't realized he was out meeting another woman.

Tears filled her eyes. "Do we really have to do this?" Xinyue asked, still holding onto a glimmer of hope for the man she had loved for so many years.

"It was all just a charade between us. There was never any real affection. You didn't actually believe there was, did you?" he said, casting a sidelong glance at her.
