C11 Elder Fu's Birthday
"Shaochen, this afternoon we were drinking together, and you had a bit too much. Then you hugged me and said you wanted to take me to your place." A blush spread across Ye Qingqing's face.
Fu Shaochen held his head, unable to recall any of it. His tolerance wasn't usually this low, even with wine.
"Do you still have the wine? Let me take a look at it later." Fu Shaochen suspected there might have been something off with the drink.
"Yeah, I have it. I'll bring it to you later. Shaochen, you're not going to back out now, are you?" Ye Qingqing thought to herself that Fu Shaochen was indeed sharp, but she had anticipated this. She had only spiked his glass, which she had already disposed of.
"No, I'll take responsibility," Fu Shaochen said calmly, though a sense of unease and restlessness crept into his mind.
"Then it's settled. Shaochen, you need to marry me soon," Ye Qingqing said with a playful smile.
"Okay," Fu Shaochen replied.
"Ding." The notification sound of a text message suddenly chimed.
Fu Shaochen opened the message; it was from Jiang Xinyue.
"After Grandpa's birthday party tomorrow, let's sign the divorce papers. I don't want to be with you anymore; it's too exhausting."
Fu Shaochen stared at the message for a long time, unsure how to respond. He didn't know how to address the night's fiasco. After pondering for a while, he could only reply with, "Okay."
The next day was Elder Fu's birthday celebration, marking his 80th year. The Fu family held a significant position in Cloud City, and they invited prominent figures from various circles, making it a grand affair.
Jiang Xinyue arrived early to help out. As the daughter-in-law of the Fu family, even though she was on the brink of divorce, she still needed to entertain the guests properly. After all, she couldn't forget Elder Fu's kindness to her.
Fu Shaoan, Fu Shaochen's sister, had also returned. She had been studying abroad for several years and rarely came back. Unlike other meddlesome sisters-in-law, Fu Shaoan genuinely liked Xinyue, and they got along like best friends.
Despite being overseas, Fu Shaoan often chatted with Jiang Xinyue through her phone. Though they hadn't seen each other in a long time, their bond remained strong.
"Xinyue, it's been ages! I've missed you so much! Has my annoying brother been bothering you? I'll set him straight for you!"
"Shaoan, you're back! How long are you staying this time?" Jiang Xinyue hadn't yet told her about the impending divorce from her brother. She decided it would be best to wait until after it was finalized.
The two caught up, exchanging pleasantries after their long separation.
Han Jun had been invited to Elder Fu's birthday celebration today, and to his surprise, he spotted the beautiful woman he had met at the bar last time.
He walked over to her and apologized for his previous abruptness. "Hey there, do you remember me?"
Jiang Xinyue looked at him for a moment and then recalled that he was the guy who had approached her and Soong Xiao at the bar last time.
"Is there something you need?" Jiang Xinyue asked, puzzled.
"I was a bit forward last time, but I really want to be friends. I'd like to get to know you. My name's Han Jun, what's yours?"
"I'm Jiang Xinyue," she replied.
Han Jun noticed Fu Shaoan standing next to her. Shaoan was his old classmate from studying abroad, and it seemed like they knew each other. Thinking Shaoan could introduce them, he smiled and said, "Shaoan, you two know each other?"
"Yeah, this is my sister-in-law," Fu Shaoan replied casually.
"What, your sister-in-law? She's married? I couldn't tell!" Han Jun was taken aback by the news that Jiang Xinyue was Shaoan's sister-in-law. The woman he was interested in was already married, and to none other than Fu Shaochen, someone he didn't dare cross.
"My brother and sister-in-law got married early, is that a problem? You better not have any funny ideas about her. Not only will my brother not let you off the hook, but neither will I." Fu Shaoan, ever the sharp one, quickly caught on and pressed him with a stern warning.
"I'm just looking to make a friend, that's all," Han Jun said, not daring to provoke this fiery woman, and certainly not wanting to mess with anyone from the Fu family.
"You better be. Don't let me catch you with any other ideas," Fu Shaoan warned. She adored her sister-in-law, but her brother always wore a sour expression and didn't know how to appreciate her. She was worried her brother might drive her away, so she felt compelled to chase off anyone trying to get close to her sister-in-law.
