C6 His Best Friend Met Him
Soong Xiao's car arrived quickly, and she took Jiang Xinyue to a bar she frequented.
"Xinyue, what's going on with you and Shaochen?"
"Shaochen wants a divorce to marry his first love. He said our marriage was just an arrangement, with no real feelings involved, and that he doesn't like me at all."
Soong Xiao sighed. She knew her best friend had liked Fu Shaochen for years. When Xinyue married him, she was genuinely happy for her, hoping their relationship would improve over time. She never expected it to end up like this. "So, what are you planning to do now?"
"Xiao, I'm pregnant."
"You're pregnant? Does Shaochen know?"
"He doesn't know, but I hinted at it. He said if I were pregnant, I should get an abortion."
"An abortion?" Soong Xiao couldn't believe her ears. "How can Shaochen say something like that? How heartless can he be to his own child?"
"Maybe that's what not loving someone looks like," Jiang Xinyue said with a bitter smile.
"So, what do you plan to do about the baby?"
"I want to leave with the baby. I can't bear the thought of an abortion," Jiang Xinyue's eyes glistened with tears.
"Are you sure about this? Raising a child on your own will be really tough."
"Xiao, you know my parents passed away a long time ago. This baby is the only family I have left in the world. I can't give up on him."
"I'm so fed up with that jerk! I'm going to find someone to teach him a lesson!" Soong Xiao couldn't hold back any longer; she wanted to give that insufferable player a piece of her mind.
"No need, Xiao. In a few days, I'll divorce him, and then we'll go our separate ways and find our own happiness," Jiang Xinyue said, raising her glass to toast with Soong Xiao.
Soong Xiao quickly snatched the bottle from her hand. "You're pregnant! How can you even think about drinking?"
Jiang Xinyue collapsed into Soong Xiao's arms. "But my heart aches so much. I'm just so sad every single day."
"I know, Xinyue. But drowning your sorrows in alcohol will only make things worse. You need to take care of yourself and the baby now."
"Okay, I'll take good care of myself and become a great mom."
"And I'm going to be the baby's godmother! I'll help you take care of them," Soong Xiao said with a smile.
"Sounds good."
"Hello, ladies! Are you single? I've never met such beautiful women before. Do you have time to make a new friend?" Han Jun had been watching them for a while. He was instantly drawn to the girl with the long hair, finding her both elegant and beautiful. It took all his courage to approach them.
Han Jun's words were directed at Jiang Xinyue, who was a bit puzzled by this sudden attempt at friendship.
Soong Xiao was used to the usual tricks people pulled in bars. She assumed Han Jun was just another carefree player who spent his days hitting on girls, so she shot him a sharp look. "We don't need to make friends," she said, pulling Jiang Xinyue away with her.
Han Jun was left puzzled, feeling like a monk who couldn't figure out the riddle. He hadn't said anything wrong, so why did he offend them? Having just returned from abroad, he wasn't familiar with some local nuances. When he recounted the incident to his friends back at their table, they all laughed, telling him his approach came off as too flirty, which could make girls uncomfortable.
Once Han Jun understood, he wanted to go after them to explain, but they were already gone. He found himself hoping to see her again, realizing he might have just experienced "love at first sight."
Meanwhile, upstairs in the bar, Fu Shaochen stepped out for some fresh air after a drink and happened to witness Han Jun trying to chat up Jiang Xinyue. He clenched his jaw, thinking, "Great! She was begging me not to divorce her earlier, and now she's here meeting another guy. This woman really knows how to play her cards!"
"Shaochen, what's up? Everyone's waiting for you inside," Ye Qingqing asked, wrapping her arm around his waist with concern.
"Nothing, I'll be in shortly," Fu Shaochen replied, though his deepening frown said otherwise.
