C9 Let's Go and Beat up Your Wife!

Seeing her close a big sale, the store clerks gathered around her, chatting excitedly.

“Xinyue, you’re so lucky! On your first day, too. You won’t have to worry about meeting your sales goals this month.”

Xinyue forced a smile. If she had a choice, she’d rather not have made that sale. Serving that couple made her feel sick.

“That guy was so handsome, really tall—must be about six-foot-three.”

“Yeah, and he was so generous. Definitely looks like the type who spoils his wife.”

“Or maybe, just maybe, he bought all that for his mistress,” Xinyue said quietly.

She couldn’t stand hearing them praise him as a devoted husband. Spoiling his wife? More like tormenting her.

“You’re just jealous. No guy would ever buy you that much.”

“Why are you so quick to assume she’s a mistress? How do you know?”

Xinyue was pretty and had a delicate charm, which made some of the other girls envious and eager to criticize her. They seized the chance to call her out.

Xinyue ignored their jabs, not interested in arguing. It wasn’t worth the effort.

After her first day, Xinyue felt utterly exhausted. She hadn’t worked in so long and forgot how tiring it could be.

Once home, she cooked herself a bowl of noodles to celebrate her twenty-second birthday.

She was adopted by her parents, who couldn't have children of their own. Despite not being their biological child, they loved her deeply and treated her as their own daughter. Since they didn't know her exact birth date, they decided together to celebrate her birthday on the day she joined their family.

Every year on her birthday, her parents would cancel all their plans to spend the day with her. Her father would carefully choose a special gift, and her mother would lovingly prepare a steaming bowl of longevity noodles. Afterward, they would all enjoy cake and blow out the candles together. Her mother would always smile wistfully and remark, "Time flies so fast; our little girl is all grown up."

"No matter how old she gets, she'll always be our little girl," her father would say, gently ruffling her hair.

As Xinyue ate the plain noodles in her bowl, she thought of these moments and tears streamed down her face, making the noodles taste saltier with each bite. The two people who loved her most in the world were gone.

She was always the one left behind. Abandoned by her birth parents as a child, she found love with her adoptive parents, only to lose them too. After getting married, she was left again when Shaochen decided to marry someone else. Thinking of all this, she couldn't stop the tears from falling.

Knowing that some things can't be rushed, she let the echoes linger in the sad wind.

The smart lock beeped, signaling that the door had opened. Shaochen was back.

“Stop working there. It's embarrassing. Isn't the Fu family's money enough for you?” His handsome face was cold and indifferent as he glanced at her.

“How is it embarrassing to earn money with my own hands? Besides, we're getting divorced. I wouldn't dare spend the Fu family's money,” Xinyue replied coolly.

“Do whatever you want. Just don't say I'm your husband. I don't want my reputation tarnished,” Shaochen retorted, angered by her words.

“Don't worry, young master Fu. I'll keep my mouth shut and won't damage your precious reputation,” Xinyue shot back with sharp wit.

The door slammed shut, leaving Xinyue with the chill of the draft.

Shaochen never remembered her birthday, only remembering to buy diamond rings for other women. He only ever criticized her, saying she embarrassed him.
