C18 Making Food for Her

Xice walked into the master bedroom and closed the door, feeling a bit moody as he called his grandmother, Zhong Lan. "Grandma, I want some oatmeal and pancakes. I'll come over and eat at your place later."

Zhong Lan had heard that her eldest grandson and Yueyue actually spent the night together. She saw this as a good start, having thought he might sneak out in the middle of the night.

"Xice, didn't Yueyue make breakfast? I heard she cooks for herself every day."

The mention of this made Xice annoyed. "I don't want to eat her cooking."

"Why? Are you afraid it's poisoned?"

With her vast experience, Zhong Lan could tell that Yueyue was a kind-hearted girl, unlikely to do anything malicious. Besides, there was no reason for Yueyue to do such a thing. Zhong Lan hoped her grandson would share breakfast with Yueyue, as these everyday moments are where couples bond.

Xice retorted, "Why should I eat food made by a stranger?"

Zhong Lan was initially pleased but quickly felt disappointed by her grandson's haughty tone. "You have breakfast ready for you, yet you want to travel all the way back here."

"Grandma, I'm hungry. Let's not talk about it." Xice was actually quite frustrated. He wanted to eat the food she made, but she wouldn't let him! He had never been ignored like this before; Yueyue was the first!

"Alright, I'll tell the chef to prepare it right away. It'll be ready when you arrive."

Zhong Lan was puzzled as to why her eldest grandson suddenly wanted to eat millet porridge; he never used to like it.

After hanging up, Xice went to the master bathroom, took a shower, dried his hair, and changed into a shirt and suit before leaving the bedroom.

Yueyue was sipping her porridge and glanced at Xice, meeting his somewhat resentful gaze.

"Remember to clean up the kitchen and lock the door when you leave," Xice reminded Yueyue as he changed his shoes at the door.

Yueyue nodded. "Got it. Oh, I used some things from your fridge. I'll replace them tonight."

"No need."

"No, I insist. Mr. Zuo, should I cover the utilities too?"

"That's not necessary."

With that, Xice replied coolly, grabbed his Volvo keys from the entryway, and left.

Once the door closed, Yueyue let out a long sigh, feeling much more relaxed. Having the stoic man around was quite intimidating; she preferred being alone. Truth be told, she was a bit socially anxious and would happily stay home if work didn't require her to go out.

Even though Xice said she didn't need to replace the items, Yueyue felt it was important to do so. She didn't like owing favors.

...

Xice returned to the family home, where the breakfast he ordered was already set on the table.

Not only was there sweet millet porridge and golden pancakes, but also steamed pumpkin, corn, and various side dishes.

Yang Jingshu was delighted to see her son come home for breakfast. Her eldest son usually lived alone in his own house, and his busy work schedule made his visits rare.

“Morning, Grandma, Mom.”

Xice greeted them, washed his hands, and started eating.

“Xice, if you have time, come back for breakfast more often. Let me know what you’d like to eat in advance, and I’ll have the cook prepare it,” Yang Jingshu said, sitting beside him and serving him some food.

Xice nodded and glanced at Zhong Lan, who was sipping porridge. “Grandma, I’m not going back to the Capital No.1 Villa tonight.”

Zhong Lan, unfazed, replied calmly, “That’s fine. If you’re not going, you’re not going. I’ll bring Yueyue here to stay tonight.”

“Grandma!” Xice put down his chopsticks, frowning with a pleading look. “Please don’t torture me like this.”

“I’m not torturing you. I’m just a bit old-fashioned. I believe that since you’re married, you should live with your wife.”

Xice turned to his mother, Yang Jingshu, for help. “Mom, please talk to Grandma. Ask her not to meddle.”

Yang Jingshu shook her head helplessly. “Xice, your grandma runs this house. I can’t change her mind.”

"Mom!"

"Xice, I'm afraid I can't help you," Jingshu shrugged, looking at her son with a mix of amusement and mischief in her eyes.

After all, just the other day, he had deliberately used his marriage certificate to rile her up, nearly driving her up the wall, and then walked off without a word of concern.

Now that her son wanted a favor, she decided to be indifferent for once.

Jingshu had already heard about the situation from her mother-in-law yesterday, and she agreed with her approach. She decided to give her son three months to test the waters with this marriage. If it didn't work out, he should promptly divorce and keep that girl, Yueyue, who had no background, far away from him.
