C3 A Sad Wedding Photo
Wooh Yueyue detected the man's condescension in his words, and her initial impression of him plummeted. He seemed to be a narcissist.
Not that it mattered; she wasn't interested in what kind of person he was.
"Here he comes."
Yueyue rolled her eyes and hurried to keep up, relieved that her marriage partner wasn't some old, unattractive man. While she didn't plan on developing feelings for him, she also didn't want to sit next to someone she found repulsive for wedding photos.
The man wore a mask and sunglasses the entire time, only revealing his full face for the photos. Yueyue was a bit surprised; he was more handsome than she had imagined, which led her to steal a few extra glances.
But that didn't mean anything. She was rational and wouldn't swoon over someone at first sight just because he was good-looking. She simply appreciated attractive people.
Yesterday, the man's lawyer had approached her to sign a marriage agreement on his behalf. The agreement clearly outlined their responsibilities and obligations.
First, both parties were only obtaining a marriage certificate and would not interfere in each other's lives or have any financial entanglements.
Second, and most importantly, the marriage had to remain a secret. If either party disclosed it, they would have to pay the other a hefty penalty of ten million dollars!
Thirdly, a year after their marriage, both parties will divorce, with no obligations to each other, going their separate ways.
In other words, even though they’ve got a marriage certificate, they’re practically strangers. Moreover, she must keep this marriage certificate strictly confidential, using it solely to appease her parents' pressure to marry.
Wooh Yueyue knows she could never come up with the ten million dollars in penalty fees, so she absolutely won't breach the contract.
When signing, she, as Party B, objected to the hefty penalty, but the main party was firm, telling her she could choose not to sign.
However, Yueyue was eager to get married, so she reluctantly agreed.
After all, aside from the penalty clause, she was satisfied with the other two terms of the agreement.
The paperwork was processed quickly, and they walked out one after the other.
Only after receiving the certificate did Yueyue learn her spouse's name was Zuo Xice.
Perhaps both she and the main party believed marriage was the grave of love, which might explain why they both wore black shirts today. The wedding photo of two unsmiling people dressed in black exuded a somber vibe.
During the photo session, the photographer kept urging them to get closer, but the man maintained a sour expression, clearly unwilling. Yueyue felt a mix of solemnity and sadness, believing marriage to be sacred, yet for her, it had become awkward and bleak.
"Whatever, it's just a fake marriage anyway, no big deal."
Yueyue initially wanted to politely greet the man before leaving, but to her surprise, he quickly walked out of the marriage office, got into his car without a glance her way, and drove off.
She watched as Xice's car sped away, feeling a bit speechless. They were married now, yet they hadn't even had a proper conversation or exchanged contact information.
Oh well, she figured they probably wouldn't see each other again, and with that thought, she felt at ease.
...
Xice left the marriage office, glanced at the red marriage certificate on the passenger seat, and felt quite pleased. He drove straight back to the Zuo Family Old Mansion.
As he entered the living room, he noticed his mother, Jingshu, sipping coffee. He walked over and with a dramatic flair, slapped the freshly minted marriage certificate onto the coffee table.
Jingshu elegantly set down her coffee cup, glanced at the red booklet, and looked up at her son with curiosity. "What's this?" she asked.
Xice lounged back on the sofa, adopting a relaxed and carefree posture. "Mom, today I fulfilled your dream. You should be very happy."
