C4 It Was Temporarily Kept a Secret
Jingshu glanced at her son and said softly, "You're talking nonsense, what dream are you going on about? This red thing looks like some kind of document..."
When Jingshu opened it, her expression changed immediately.
She realized it wasn't just any document; it was a marriage certificate for her son and a woman she had never met!
Jingshu felt her head spin and collapsed onto the couch, staring at her son in disbelief. Her voice trembled with anger, "Xice, what are you doing? You got married out of the blue and didn't even tell your own mother?"
Xice's grandmother, Lan, had been watering flowers in the yard. As soon as she heard the word "married," she quickly put down the watering can and hurried into the living room.
Though she was seventy, she looked more like sixty, with sharp eyes and ears, and a strong, lively spirit.
Lan asked eagerly, "Jingshu, who got married?"
Jingshu looked at her son, who seemed indifferent, almost amused, and she was nearly beside herself with frustration. She turned to her mother-in-law with a look of distress, "Mom, I'm about to lose it! Xice got married, just got the certificate! Such a big thing, and he didn't even tell you or me."
Zuo Xice knew he was in the wrong and avoided looking at his grandmother's stern face. "If I had told you all in advance, this marriage wouldn't have happened."
He was telling the truth; marriages in wealthy families aren't taken lightly.
Zhong Lan lightly punched her grandson's shoulder. "You rascal, what were you thinking?"
"Mom, this isn't just mischief. He's trying to give me a heart attack!" Yang Jingshu was so upset that tears welled up in her eyes. She pressed her temples to calm herself. Even though she was on the verge of breaking down, her upbringing in a prestigious family meant she maintained her composure and didn't lose her cool.
The grandmother put on her reading glasses and took the marriage certificate from her daughter-in-law to examine it closely. It was real, much to her shock. "Xice, marriage isn't a game. You've been too hasty."
Despite her anger, she scrutinized the photo on the certificate and couldn't help but comment, "Well, my granddaughter-in-law is quite pretty, with a refined demeanor. Look at that small face, shiny black hair, and those bright, dark eyes... really quite lovely."
"Mom, what are you saying? We don't even know what kind of person she is, so how can you call her your granddaughter-in-law? I refuse to accept this," Yang Jingshu said, snatching the marriage certificate from her mother-in-law and throwing it at Zuo Xice's face. "Who is this woman you married? What kind of family does she come from?"
Zuo Xice slipped the marriage certificate into his shirt pocket, stood up, and said in a serious tone, "Mom, who my wife is doesn't matter. What matters is that I like her. You need to accept the fact that I'm truly married now."
Yang Jingshu couldn't accept the reality. "It's ridiculous that my son got married and I didn't even know about it! Xice, don't just marry someone out of spite."
"Mom, getting married is a good thing. Now you won't have to keep setting me up on blind dates. I've been tired of your constant nagging about marriage, and I didn't like any of the women you introduced to me," Zuo Xice said as he turned to leave.
"You're 32 and still not married. How can a mother not worry?"
Yang Jingshu watched her son's determined back, feeling a pang in her chest. She had been pushing him to marry, but it was all for his own good, wasn't it? So many women wanted to marry into the Zuo family, yet her son wasn't interested in any of them. How would she ever have grandchildren at this rate?
She had three sons, and none of them were married. The Zuo family legacy seemed to be in jeopardy, and she couldn't help but worry.
The elderly lady hurried after him. "Xice, where does my granddaughter-in-law live? Are you two living together? When are you having the wedding ceremony? Xice, don't walk so fast; your grandma might fall."
Zuo Xice held his grandmother in high regard. He paused to let her catch up, gently supporting her as she approached. In a soft voice, he said, "Grandma, let's keep my marriage a secret for now. We're having a private ceremony."
