C8 Old Lady Who Blackmailed Her

Jiabao was banging on the door outside. "Sis, I'm starving. I haven't eaten yet. Open up, let's talk this out."

Soong Yan shouted angrily, "Ungrateful brat! If I'd known you'd be so heartless, I would have smothered you when you were little!"

Yueyue leaned against the door, tears silently streaming down her face. If she could, she'd wish she'd never been born. Having parents like this was exhausting and heartbreaking.

Jiabao and his mom pounded on the door for ages, but Yueyue never opened it. It wasn't until the neighbors started complaining that they reluctantly left.

On the way back, Soong Yan and Jiabao kept cursing Yueyue for being ungrateful and not helping out her parents and brother.

Soong Yan told her son, "Tomorrow, when you have time, secretly follow your sister. I want to know what kind of man she's with. That ungrateful girl went and got married behind my back, and it makes me furious."

Jiabao was seething too. He had plans to use the $50,000 from Aquan to look at houses with his girlfriend. Once they settled on a place, he could finally talk to his girlfriend's parents about getting engaged. But now, everything had fallen apart.

He said angrily, "Mom, don't worry. If that guy's broke, I'll make him divorce my sister. Why should he marry her without any money?"

"Yeah, that's the only way."

Soong Yan sighed, reluctantly saying, "Well, we'll have to put things off with Aquan for now."

Jiabao's eyes lit up as he leaned in to whisper to Soong Yan, "Mom, don't rush. My sister said she's secretly married to that guy and hasn't announced it. So, besides us, no one knows she's married. Let's keep it a secret, even from Dad. We can stall Aquan, and if this guy turns out to be unreliable, we'll have her divorce him and marry Aquan instead."

Soong Yan thought her son made sense and slapped her thigh excitedly, "Jiabao, you're so smart! We need to have a backup plan. You're right, we can't tell your dad. He's old-fashioned. If he finds out your sister's married, he'll definitely try to keep them together."

Jiabao smirked confidently, "Mom, we can't let my sister get the short end of the stick. If she's been tricked into marriage, we won't stand for it."

Soong Yan nodded, "Exactly, we can't let that broke guy take advantage of your sister! He must be penniless, which is why they had a simple wedding."

The next day.

Yueyue woke up on time, applied light makeup, and dressed in a neat black suit before driving to work. No matter how tough her life got, she never slacked off at work. Her job was her foundation, and survival was the priority; everything else could wait.

As Yueyue drove into the underground parking lot and turned off the engine, an elderly woman suddenly fell in front of her car. Startled, Yueyue quickly got out to check on her.

"Ma'am, are you okay?" Yueyue asked, helping the woman up and checking for any injuries.

The elderly woman, dressed simply and holding a fabric bag, looked at Yueyue with a hint of reproach. "Young lady, you startled me with that sudden honk."

Yueyue clearly remembered not honking her horn; it seemed to have come from a nearby car leaving the lot. She didn't blame the woman and patiently explained, "Ma'am, you must have mistaken it. I wasn't the one who honked. Are you feeling alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?"

This elderly woman was Xice's grandmother, Lan. She had disguised herself to see firsthand what the girl marrying her grandson was like.

The elderly lady looked at Yueyue with a smile and waved her hand. "No need to go to the hospital, I'm fine."

"Ma'am, even though I wasn't the one who startled you, you fell in front of my car. If you need anything, I can take you to the hospital." Yueyue was always considerate and easygoing, which left a positive impression on everyone she worked with.

"You're very kind, dear, but I'm alright. Don't worry about me."

"Okay then, I'm off to work."

Yueyue glanced at the time, bid farewell to the elderly lady, and jogged into the elevator.

"Go on, dear, don't be late," the lady called after her.

Zhong Lan watched Yueyue's slender figure disappear, a satisfied smile spreading across her kind face.
