C15 How Insidious

“Lishan!” Jinxi shouted angrily.

Lishan kept her smile, unfazed by his outburst. Her indifference only fueled Jinxi's anger. “Do you really think I can't deal with you? Just wait and see. I'll make sure everyone knows just how deceitful you really are!”

With that, he stormed toward the door, ready to leave. But just as he was about to step out, he paused and turned back with a cold smirk. “You'll regret everything you said to me today!”

Mia stood there, rolling her eyes as the door slammed shut. Only then did she slowly turn around, her gaze icy as she watched him leave. Driving him away was just the beginning; she planned to strike back at the Chi family.

Remembering how her father jumped to his death and her mother’s suicide, her hatred for the Chi family deepened. Shaking her head, she headed upstairs. She hadn’t been in her room long when her phone rang.

It was an unknown number. Frowning, she answered, and a familiar, cool voice came through the line. “Lishan, are you home?”

Lishan's expression turned colder, and she instinctively moved to hang up, but the voice continued, stopping her. “Did my little nephew bother you again?”

"Yes, please keep an eye on your nephew and make sure he doesn't cause any more trouble," Lishan said quietly.

A low chuckle came through the phone, leaving Lishan puzzled and even a bit creeped out. From what she knew, this man was as cold as they come, and his laughter was never a good sign.

"Alright, I'll have a word with my nephew. After all, his aunt isn't someone to be messed with," Tianche's low voice came through the receiver.

Lishan was so startled she nearly dropped her phone. That was terrifying! Who wanted to be his aunt?

"Uncle, that joke isn't funny at all!" Lishan rubbed her aching temples, resisting the urge to lash out. If it weren't for the fact that she might need his help in the future, she would have given him a piece of her mind long ago.

"Indeed, it's not a joke," Tianche said calmly. "I'm just letting you know to get some rest."

Does she really need him to tell her to rest? Lishan's mouth twitched. "I was just about to sleep. Goodnight, Uncle."

"Goodnight. I'll pick you up for work tomorrow."

"I don't need..." Lishan started to explain, but he had already hung up.

Staring at the busy signal, Lishan felt like throwing her phone. Seriously, couldn't he let her finish before hanging up?

Qiao Lishan angrily tossed her phone aside and lay on her bed, her mind consumed by the events of the previous day. Without realizing it, she drifted into a deep sleep, only to be abruptly awakened the next morning by a notification on her phone. She opened her bleary eyes and read the message, instantly wide awake.

"Teen girl unknowingly gives birth..."

The night before last had been her risky time, and the thought that she might have hit the mark sent chills down her spine.
