C4 The Number One Playboy in the Capital(part I)
"Your news travels fast," Su Yu'an remarked with a touch of admiration.
Su Zhaoke replied, "I went to the Peaceful Longevity Hall, but I wasn't as quick as Dad and the others..."
"Do me a favor," Su Yu'an said after a moment's thought. "Go to the front yard and find our second brother. Ask him to come to the backyard when he has a moment."
"Why do you need him?" Su Zhaoke asked, puzzled.
"Because he's a bit of a playboy too," Su Yu'an sighed. Birds of a feather flock together, after all. If anyone can figure out what's going on with Jiang Qiyun, it's him.
After Su Zhaoke left, Su Yu'an called Danzhu into the inner room.
With a serious expression, Su Yu'an instructed, "Have Mo Xiu look into how Lin Jiaoer got involved with Jiang Qixing and what exactly happened between them."
"You suspect Lin Jiaoer did something on purpose? That can't be right. General Jiang just returned from the border..." Danzhu found it hard to believe.
"If not, why would he call off the engagement?" Su Yu'an, who had no romantic feelings for Jiang Qixing, assessed the situation with clear-headed logic. "He's a military man, not someone who shirks responsibility."
"Then..." Danzhu was at a loss.
"Then it means Lin Jiaoer needs him to take responsibility more than I do," Su Yu'an said softly. Although the Jiang family hadn't mentioned it, Su Yu'an was convinced Lin Jiaoer had done something significant, and somehow pinned it on the Jiang family. Otherwise, why would Jiang Qiyun be pressured into marrying me just because Su Zhiliang threw a tantrum? Even if he's a playboy, he's still the legitimate son of a marquis.
"Miss, what are you planning to do?" Danzhu was itching to tear into Jiaoer right then and there.
"How dare she eat from someone else's bowl and still try to steal the rightful lady's engagement? Shameless."
"What to do? If she dares to take a bite, she better be ready to swallow it," Su Yu'an hissed through clenched teeth.
"I'll go find Moshu," Danzhu said, bowing slightly before leaving the residence.
Moshu was Su Yu'an's trusted aide, working at a teahouse in the city, and had quickly risen to a managerial position. Su Yu'an had observed that this teahouse had some backing, and for Moshu to become a manager, he must have some skills.
Before any news came from Moshu, her brother, Su Zhaolin, arrived at the Orchid Snow Residence.
Su Zhaolin was the second son of the first branch, already eighteen but still unmarried, simply because he wasn't considered promising. His mother had died early, and without affection from his father or stepmother, he grew up like a wildflower, with his only goal being to eat and drink his fill—something he had in common with Su Yu'an.
For someone like him, it was a feat to not have gone astray, let alone become accomplished.
However, Su Yu'an knew that despite his carefree lifestyle, Su Zhaolin had a good heart.
As soon as Su Zhaolin entered, he lounged back in a chair, crossing one leg over the other. "So, what do you need from your big brother?"
Su Yu'an handed over a crabapple pastry and a cup of his homemade green tea. "Brother, have some tea!"
Su Zhaolin took a bite of the pastry and sipped the tea, frowning. "The tea smells nice, but it doesn't have the kick of alcohol."
"Brother, I'll bring you some wine later. I have something I want to ask you." Su Yu'an wore his most gentle smile.
"Don't be so formal. Just say it. If I know the answer, I won't hold back," Su Zhaolin said, popping another piece of pastry into his mouth.
"Are you familiar with the second son of the Jiang family?" Su Yu'an asked, looking at Su Zhaolin.
"The second son?" Su Zhaolin paused, holding his tea, then quickly set it down on the small bamboo table after realizing it was hot.
"Sister, what are you thinking?" Su Zhaolin sat up straight, speaking urgently. "Let me tell you, even though that Jiang kid is quite charming, he's really not right for you."
Hearing this, Su Yu'an felt a pang in his heart.
