C6 A Hero Saving a Beauty(part I)
"Second Brother, I want to see him," Su Yu'an said to Su Zhaolin.
"Huh? Well..." Su Zhaolin scratched his head, then said, "I'll try to set something up for you."
"Second Brother, I don't need to talk to him. I just want to take a quick look," Su Yu'an quickly added.
Even though Su Yu'an had focused on emotional counseling in her past life, she knew the importance of studying micro-expressions and subtle movements. Just seeing Jiang Qiyun, without any conversation, would give her some insight.
By the afternoon, Su Zhaolin brought news that Jiang Qiyun had been beaten by his father and probably wouldn't be leaving the house anytime soon.
"Miss, why would his father hit him?" her maid, Lvqing, asked in confusion. "They're about to get engaged; it doesn't seem right."
Su Yu'an smirked. "It's obvious that Second Young Master Jiang didn't want to marry me and put up a fight at home."
On the third day, Mr. Jiang and Mrs. Qin came over early in the morning, but Jiang Qiyun did not accompany them. They claimed he had caught a cold and wouldn't be coming to avoid spreading it.
...
Su Yu'an spent the morning lounging in the courtyard, sipping tea.
"Miss, if you don't want to drink it, just leave it. The tea's gone cold several times already," Danzhu said, unable to resist taking the porcelain cup from Su Yu'an's hand.
At that moment, Lvqing hurriedly entered the courtyard.
"Is everything set?" Su Yu'an asked Lvqing.
"Yes, it's settled. The engagement is on May 3rd, just in time to add some joy to the festival," Lvqing whispered.
May 3rd? That means there's only a month left. No matter what, Su Yu'an had to meet Jiang Qiyun before then.
Before Su Yu'an could devise a plan, an opportunity presented itself. Someone from Peaceful Longevity Hall announced that the matriarch was going to the West Mountain Temple to offer incense and wanted a few of the young ladies to accompany her.
West Mountain Temple is a renowned site, offering scenic beauty year-round. It's a favorite spot for young gentlemen to host poetry gatherings and for ladies to meet potential suitors.
Before heading to the temple, Mo Xiu had already uncovered the details about Jiang Qixing and Lin Jiaoer. It was indeed a case of a hero saving a damsel in distress. Lin Jiaoer had encountered robbers on her way back from offering incense. Fortunately, Jiang Qixing happened to be there. It was raining that day, and while his companions chased the robbers, Lin Jiaoer fainted from fright. Jiang Qixing had no choice but to carry her into his carriage.
Somehow, Jiang Qixing was suddenly overcome with desire and took advantage of the situation in the carriage. Su Yu'an was stunned upon hearing this. No wonder Jiang Qixing had to marry Lin Jiaoer.
Even though the Lin family had fallen on hard times, they still held the nominal title of an Earl Mansion. Lin Jiaoer was the legitimate daughter, and if the Jiang family didn't marry her, the Lin family might fight back fiercely.
There was just one issue: even if Lin Jiaoer learned from Old Madam Su the exact day Jiang Qixing would return to the capital, how did she know which route he would take? As for the idea of a chance encounter, Su Yu'an simply couldn't believe it, and Mo Xiu couldn't uncover any evidence either. Moreover, while Jiang Qixing wasn't particularly clever, he was known for his integrity. How could he be so impulsive? It just didn't make sense.
"Since there's such a juicy rumor, let's make sure everyone hears about it," Su Yu'an said, glancing at Danzhu. Danzhu nodded immediately. With Mo Xiu at the teahouse, spreading the news wouldn't be a problem, and it wouldn't trace back to him.
With this matter settled, Su Yu'an felt much more at ease and began preparing with the maids for the trip to West Mountain Temple. Joining Su Yu'an on this trip were Su Yuxi, the Second Miss of the First Branch, and Su Yuleng, the Fourth Miss.
