The next morning, when I opened my eyes, all the lights in the room were turned off and the curtains were drawn back into place.

When I turned on the bedside lamp, the house was empty. I got out of bed and went into the living room, which had a constant reminder on the wall that it was noon.

Normally I would have gone to work by this time, but no one taught me today.
