C2 Chapter 2

I take a look at my small pocket mirror one last time making sure everything is oka… damn it my lips are dry again.

Freaking cheap birthday gift Chapstick.

Just wonderful, they can’t even stay on my lips for more than two minutes. I reapply the gloss, this time generously smudging it over and over. My ponytail still in place, I tag on my skirt before pulling on my low-cut blouse that showed way too much cleavage than it should. I felt dirty thanks to Greta. I looked like a slut who overslept through her walk of shame hours now too scared to pass by the streets, uses building hallways to save the last fills of her decency. This outfit as told was supposed to do the trick but the only thing it seemed to achieve was a trick overdo.

I bend to pick the laundry basket as I slowly made my way to Rey’s apartment. Greta had left me at the parking lot her words, ‘’this isn’t my cup of tea to sip’’. Not that I argue with her, she undoubtedly didn’t order tea but those were words shitty friends say. On stopping at Rey’s door his presence in the apartment wasn’t reassuring since no light rays slipped under the door. He was supposed to be in for at least two hours before now.

I checked my watch, 30 mins till dawn and horny perverted college kids would be walking out of these doors going to whatever sin adventure they had planned for the weekend. Crossing paths with them won’t do me any good, other than earning myself a name I wasn’t planning on getting.

Grabbing my phone, I try calling Rey who doesn’t receive it, damn it. I press his door bell which like his phone went unanswered. I wait for a couple of second before pressing the doorbell again this time long pressing on the button and then I hear it…

Twisting the door knob let myself in to his apartment like I have a lot of times but today its different,

‘’hey babe,’’ I started, ‘’ I got your laundry b…’’

There he was with a girl on his lap, a little tiny lady who didn’t seem to hit 5 foot if she stood up. Was this some kind of joke? she seemed like an underage girl. He had his face buried in her neck; I hope he was draining blood out of her because I will be sucking the life out of him later. None of them looked disturbed by my newfound presence but I was. The laundry basket slipped from my hand hitting the ground the impact startled both of them. Recognition dawned in Rey’s face

‘’what’s going on here?’’ I demanded taking a step forward my eyes trained on both of them.

The girl frowned her eyes swipe me from head to toe, something flashes in her eyes, insecurity?

She raised off Rey hastily picking up a red dress off on the chair’s arm rest before covering her chest. Awesome! she had half of her clothes off her body. This clearly did need any explanation it only made anger coil in my stomach. Her eyes dart to Rey whose eyes were popped out surprised by my presence, clearly, he didn’t expect me to burst in now. Lovely, the shock was on both of us

‘’This is what you do when am not around?’’ my voice cracked.

I wanted to pick up the laundry basket and throw at them.

Rey stood confusion written all over his face, wondering who he was going to run to. The girl beside him chokes out a disapproval laughter as she shakes her head, her eyes shifting from confusion to anger.

Rey looks at her but brushed her off as he rounded the couch heading towards me, I throw my arm out stopping him from coming any closer.

‘’babe, I can explain,’’ he said

I scowled, I wanted to hear him explain himself not that I would listen to him anyway.

‘’No need to I think we both see what it is,’’ the girl said her alto voice clearly contrasting with her small body.

Rey reaches for me again but I step back

‘’hey, let me explain we can sort this out,’’

‘’seriously Rey, you are even trying? don’t you have any shame?’’

From the corner of my eyes, I catch a glimpse of the girl picking up something off the messy snack wrappers cluttered table and heads towards us. Her calmness confused the hell out of me as much as I was thankful, so far, she wasn’t one of the outrageous girls when caught cheating, I needed something for reassurance like crying and calling either of us names.

She laughed harshly as she turned to Rey, ‘’ this is what you have been doing? cheating?’’

Finally, the snap, a good sign? I don’t know. But I needed this to turn ugly.

Rey seems to ignore her at first before casting her a side glance and slipping a sorry that he actually didn’t mean to her.

She shook her head blinking away her tears through her flared nose and points at me

‘’with her?’’

Rey doesn’t answer since he has a pleading mask on his face directed to both of us.

‘’Rey, karma is out to get you, you won’t like it’’

Her hands slipped behind her dress pulling out a knife and points at us.

‘’Fuck!’’ ‘’oh shit!’’ Rey and I cursed as we both backed up

‘’guys like you don’t deserve every waking breath you get,’’ she sneered the tip of her knife coming way too close to me.

I could have sworn at that moment I peed on myself, this was not the way I was supposed to die, without dignity. I needed something sensible written on my tombstone like ‘she died during a pay raise protest at the shop she worked at,’ not in a murder because of Rey’s infidelity.

Rey’s arm wrapped around mine pulling me out of the room as he dragged me down the hallway in a hurry. My short skirt not getting the severity of the situation kept on riding up my thighs despite my efforts of trying to pull them down. Behind us the door clicks open just as Rey pulls me in to another room dark and dump smelling.

‘’You didn’t mention she was violent!’’ I shrield at Rey in a hushed voice my heart pumping wildly in my chest.

‘’How was I to know?’’ Rey cried out clearly least composed than I was.

His cold sweaty hands were still wrapped around mine, tight enough to break my bones.

‘’I swear Rey if I die today, am going to haunt you till your death and am promising you its not going to be nice,’’ I lean closer to him in search for a sense of security but it wasn’t doing anything for my wild racing mind.

I had seen cases like these on BBC crime files; crime of passion. If she was good enough, she could get away with our murder for years or pin it on us liked we stabbed each other to death. There were a thousand ways of how this could go wrong and I wasn’t ready for any of them.

‘’I didn’t plan on dying today,’’

He hushed me.

Everything around me go goes silent except for the approaching footsteps. They drew closer stopping right at the room we had just walked into.

‘’This isn’t over yet Rey,’’ her stern voice echoed from the other side of the door.
