"Not everyone can get me to show up," he said coolly, exuding an aura that kept people at a distance.

Xiaowu hesitated for a moment. Did he mean that his presence today was a huge favor?

"Mr. Guu, why are you helping me?" she asked directly, without any pretense.

"That's something you need to figure out—what makes you worth my help," he replied, swirling the wine in his glass with a composed expression.

Xiaowu pondered for a moment, sensing an ambition in Guu Nuofei.

"Is your target the Bai family?" she guessed. But as soon as she voiced it, she noticed a flicker of surprise in Guu Nuofei's eyes.

Guu Nuofei raised an eyebrow slightly. People said the second Miss of the Xia family was spoiled and naive, but she wasn't as clueless as they thought.

Still, who was Bai Sichen? When had he ever shown interest in women? It was rumored that not long ago, the second Miss Xia openly rejected a marriage proposal and even slapped Bai Sichen in public. Xia Tianbo's downfall was partly due to this marriage issue, along with the crisis at Xiabo Company.

Yet, how much time had passed since then? Just yesterday, they had a wedding, and the second Miss Xia had married into the Bai family with such dignity.

"Isn't there something fishy about this?"

Guu Nuofei seemed deep in thought, not speaking for a long time.

"Mr. Guu?"

It wasn't until Xia Xiaowu gently reminded him that Guu Nuofei snapped back to reality.

"The Bai family investing in Xiabo is just a win-win situation. It doesn't really harm Bai Sichen, does it?"

There was a hint of something hidden in Guu Nuofei's smile, but Xia Xiaowu remained unfazed.

"Besides... the whole city isn't exactly rooting for Miss Xia and Bai Sichen's marriage. Could it be true, as everyone says, that there's no real affection between them?"

Guu Nuofei's eyes were probing, and it was clear that not only he, but the whole world, knew there was no love between her and Bai Sichen.

In truth, Xia Xiaowu wasn't afraid; her intentions were never a secret. Bai Sichen wasn't naive either; he probably figured it out long ago.

How long could a marriage like theirs last?

Xia Xiaowu thought that as long as the marriage lasted until she could stand on her own and keep Xiabo Company thriving, she'd be satisfied.

"Rest assured, I'll hold my ground as Xiabo's Chairman!"

After saying this, Xia Xiaowu raised her glass to clink with Guu Nuofei's, downed her drink in one go, and said calmly, "I'm going to the restroom."

In the restroom, Xia Xiaowu felt a bit uneasy, so she lingered for a while longer. Suddenly, she overheard a conversation:

"Did you hear? Yesterday, Sichen got married."

"That old and unattractive guy?"

"Yeah, that's him. Do you know who he married?"

"Who in all of North City doesn't know? It's the second daughter of the Xia family, Xia Xiaowu, right?"

"I heard she married him for the sake of her family. It's surprising that someone who was so determined to marry Fourth Young Master would agree to this."

"Some people do it for money, others for reputation. The Bai family is one of the most prestigious in North City."

"I heard Xia Xiaowu is here at the hotel today too..."

"Let's go check it out!"

The two women were probably hotel staff. Xia Xiaowu sighed. Why did the name "Fourth Young Master" sound so familiar?
