C7 The Spellbound Super Cop

Harvey saw a mugging while heading to his police station. He had showered, shaved, and was heading to his workplace. An elderly woman's handbag was grabbed by a thin black male who was wearing shabby clothing and appeared to be high. The elderly woman became upset and started to sob, acting like a young child who had just been beaten. She cried out as she sank to her knees in the street. Harvey groaned and reflected that he hadn't even started his day yet. He stepped out of his car and went over to the old woman. She accepted his hand as he pulled her up, appearing relieved to see him.

"Officer, please find him. Money, my social security card, and pictures of my grandchildren were all within. I - need -" The woman wasn't allowed to complete her sentence.

"I'm on it, ma'am. Don't worry." Harvey replied.

Despite being a large man with broad shoulders and a robust body, Harvey could run like a world-class marathoner. He was scurrying down the street after the man in a matter of seconds, amid a sidewalk that was starting to fill up with people heading to work or other weekday occupations. The man lost his balance, stumbled, and smashed into a mailbox.

"Gotcha," said Harvey.

He pulled out his handcuffs and banged the man into the mailbox. "Give up that purse. You're in police custody. Do you play around like this? Just rob purses or something else?"

The man kept his mouth shut and controlled his rage.

"You're going to apologize to her, and I'm giving her back her purse." Harvey snarled.

"I'm in hell. Stupid white trashes deserve to be treated the way I treat them." The man hollered.

"You'll have to stop talking. After saying sorry to the woman, get in the police car." And Harvey smashed the convict's head again on the mailbox.

When noon arrived and Harvey's stomach began to grumble for lunch, he decided to invite Keith, a fellow officer, to lunch. He had just unlocked the door and entered the station when he noticed a group of male police officers cheering and glancing at someone who was hidden from the crowd's view. Harvey tried to see who was being praised, but he was unable to make anything out. The Chief then put his hand on someone's shoulder while grinning in a manner he had never seen before. Harvey was amazed at the cheerful celebrations.

"Please treat her equally because she is the newest member of the force. It was about time that this force got a female officer. She is quite a powerhouse in and of herself. She has already made two difficult arrests—one in a case of kidnapping a child in which the suspect was armed—and another in which she managed to capture a rapist. I'd want to extend a warm welcome to Evelyn O'Neil." The Chief announced.

Harvey noticed her. He was stupefied and baffled beyond limits. It was the same elegant beauty he had the pleasure of knowing while she had been seated in Professor Goldstein's living room. Harvey's jaw could have easily fallen. She was there in her uniform, looking confident and proud and in some way tougher than usual. But the girl was undoubtedly the same, and she was still pretty lovely. The shock was too great to handle for Harvey. How was she a police officer?

How could she have accomplished so much already? Harvey had begun to fantasize about this woman, whom he had perceived as an intellectual beauty who appreciated fine meals. Since he first met her, she has been on his mind and illicit thoughts. While speaking with the boys and shaking their hands, Evelyn was oblivious to Harvey. Harvey regained his composure. After all, he did not want to appear to be silent because someone would undoubtedly notice his perplexed expression.

The Chief had approached him and put a hand on his shoulder, saying, "Come say hello. You'll be delighted to meet our new gal, Harvey."

As they approached her, Evelyn's eyes caught sight of the Chief and she grinned. Harvey then came into her view.

The Chief introduced Harvey Banach, describing him as "our top cop."

Again, their eyes were locked.

She grinned seductively and teased, "It's a pleasure, Mr. Banach, and it's also extremely wonderful to know that I'm in the company of a super cop."
