C9 Chapter Nine

Chapter Nine

‘'I need to talk to you boys about something’'. When he noticed me sitting at the table, he stopped talking. ‘'Privately?’' Jemma stood up and came over to me.

‘'Come on darling, give the boys some privacy'’. I stood up.

'’Yeah, sure, sorry’'. We hadn't quite left the room when they started talking again;

'’She's a bit young to be hanging around with you lot, isn't she?’' He was clearly talking about me.

'’What's the problem, Allen?’' I heard 'Allen' mention something about the guys needing to go in for questioning but before I could hear why we were out of earshot and Jemma was directing me into her and Ron's bedroom.

She closed the door, I'm guessing to make sure that I couldn't hear anything and went to sit on the bed. I felt awkward being in here, so I just went over to look at the birds she had in a large cage in the corner.

'’They're cute’'. I spoke out loud but not to Jemma.

'’Yeah, Ron got me them. He knows I love my birds’'. I couldn't help but smile. That was sweet and romantic. As I stood there, admiring the animals, I couldn't help but wonder about what the police officer wanted and the curiosity got the better of me. I turned to face Jemma, who strangely was already looking at me.

'’Why is that policeman wanting to talk to the guys? Why do the guys need to go for questioning?'’

'’It's club business'’. I was getting a bit annoyed at hearing that.

'’Yeah, I guess I’m just an outsider huh?'’ She smiled.

'’You're still new to this and Ron is still new to you’'. I hmmm'ed. '’When the time is right, he will share a few secrets with

you’'.

'’How can you be so sure?'’

'’Because you wouldn't be able to stick around otherwise... and I know he's very eager for you to stick around’'. Well, that was something I suppose.

'’Can't you... Can't you just tell me something? Please?’' I could tell by the look on her face, she was considering it. '’I don't need massive intel secrets or to know every seedy detail about them... Just something?'’

She patted the bed next to her and I went to sit down.

'’Ron and the guys are part of an MC, you know that’'. I nodded. '’Well, they also dabble in.. some activities that most would consider illegal'’.

'’Consider it illegal or it IS outright illegal?'’

'’Outright. I'm guessing from the photos in the club, the mug shots, you probably got a good idea on that'’. I nodded.

'’Yeah, but what specifically have they done?'’

‘'Assault, battery, gun charges, drug mulling and distributing... Murder, but that can't be proven’'. I was speechless at her blahzay attitude. I stood up and walked back across the room, completely stunned. Murder?! Fucking murder?!

'’This is really heavy shit'’. This was only 'just something'?! What the fuck was the big picture with these guys?! '’Are they dangerous? Is Ron dangerous?!'’

'’No! No of course not, He just-’' She stopped talking as soon as the door opened and like his ears were burning, Ron walked in. I just looked at him but didn't speak. Jemma stood up. '’Hey baby, everything ok?'’

'’Yeah, Allan wants us to go in for questioning tomorrow. There was a... discovery inside the border, it's been linked to us’'. He was talking quietly, but I could hear every word. I wanted to scream at him, but I held my tongue.

'’Should we be worried?’' He shook his head.

‘'No. It's fine. We will handle it'’. Jemma nodded and Ron turned his attention back to me. '’So, listen, We will have to take a rain check on our day tomorrow. I have some stuff that's really important’'.

'’It's fine, I understand'’. I tried to hide my emotions but did a really shit job of it. I was gutted. I was really really gutted. I was looking forward to spending some time with him, getting to know Ron Hale. Who he was, what he's about... Just.. getting to know him.

'’I'm sorry'’.

'’It's fine’'. He and Jemma shared a look, they knew it wasn't. '’I'm really tired, I think I'm gonna head back to the apartment'’. Ron just nodded. I said goodnight and left the bedroom. When I got back to the kitchen, the police officer was still there, sitting, having a drink with the others. They all looked up at me.

‘'Everything ok?’' Harry asked.

'’Yeah, everything's fine’'. I turned my attention to Alexander. '’Do you think you can give me a lift back?'’

'’Yeah, sure’'. He stood up, said his goodbyes and we left the house. The walk back to the car was silent, as was the drive, all the way back to the garage.

He pulled up and turned the engine off. I just got out and made my way to the clubhouse entrance, but stopped and turned to face Alexander who had got on his bike and was putting on his helmet.

I walked back over to him and put my hand on his handlebars. He looked up at me.

'’What?'’ His coldness almost made me just turn on my heels and head back, but I decided against it.

'’Do you wanna come in and have some drinks with me?'’ He seemed shocked by my offer.

'’I thought you didn't drink?'’ I shrugged.

‘'I don't normally but... I feel like I should start’'. He chuckled and got back off his bike.

'’Yeah, I could have a few drinks'’.

We walked back to the clubhouse and headed inside.
