C15 The Proud Princess
"Princess, Mingyue has escaped. I believe those warriors from Yan Country helped her. It's been a day and a night, and she's likely far from Yancheng by now."
Lin Feng was frustrated, thinking that if the princess hadn't planned to send Mingyue to the Myriad Flower Tower, she wouldn't have had the chance to escape.
"Useless! You sealed all the city gates, yet you let that woman escape. What kind of general are you?" Princess Xiangxiang fumed, hands on her hips, exuding authority.
"Princess, you are a princess of the Holy Empire, not of Ximu. If I've done something wrong, it's up to our emperor to punish me, not a princess from the Holy Empire," Lin Feng retorted, glaring. He had intended to hold his tongue, but her arrogance was too much.
"You, Lin Feng, how dare you speak to me like that? Don't forget, the entire world belongs to the Holy Empire. No matter which country you're from, you're all subjects of the Holy Empire. What right do you have to defy me?"
Princess Xiangxiang slammed the table in anger. Lin Feng watched her silently, curious to see if her hand would hurt from the relentless pounding.
Sure enough, after a while, her hand turned red, and she started shaking it in pain.
Lin Feng's lips curled slightly, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.
To be honest, Princess Xiangxiang doesn't hold a candle to Princess Mingyue. They're both princesses, but just look at Mingyue—her beauty, grace, and demeanor are miles ahead. Xiangxiang just got lucky with her father. If he were the Crown Prince, he definitely wouldn't be interested in Princess Xiangxiang.
Of course, these thoughts are just Lin Feng's musings; he wouldn't dare say them out loud.
"Did you search everywhere?" Xiangxiang asked Lin Feng coldly, perhaps having vented enough of her temper.
"Yes, we've scoured the entire palace and nearly every household," Lin Feng replied, despite his reluctance, as he had to answer the princess's questions.
There was no choice; her status was simply too prominent.
This continent is constantly at war, and no one can say for sure how many countries exist. Today, one family rules, and tomorrow, it's another. But among these nations, only one stands out as the most powerful: the Holy Empire.
The Holy Emperor is above any single country. He doesn't interfere in other nations' internal affairs. Apart from one city that serves as his capital, he has virtually no territory. Yet, wherever he goes, the Holy Empire is held in the highest regard. Every country, regardless of its king, pays tribute to him.
He's like the emperor above all emperors, while the smaller countries are just squabbling among themselves.
Of course, aside from the Holy Empire, the most powerful nations are Ximu, Xuanyuan, Baili, Qingfeng, and Yan-Zhao.
Originally, Yan-Zhao was a merger of Yan and Zhao, but for some unknown reason, Zhao suddenly turned against Yan and allied with Xuanyuan, splitting Yan-Zhao into two.
Less than a year after Yan became independent, Ximu's army invaded. They soon captured Yan's capital, leading to Yan's downfall.
So now, it seems that besides the Holy Empire, there are only four strong nations left on the continent.
Princess Xiangxiang is the Holy Emperor's only daughter and his cherished treasure. This is why Lin Feng finds Princess Xiangxiang so annoying yet cannot afford to offend her.
