C5 Magistrate Court Recruitment

The young man chuckled softly. Even with her eyes covered, Lo Li could clearly sense the brilliance in his gaze.

"It's not the best situation, but I'm about to make my escape. What are you going to do? Turn me in, or pretend you didn't see anything?"

The young man tilted his head, pondering for a moment.

"Neither. You're interesting. How about I give you a hand?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Lo Li felt a rush of movement. In the blink of an eye, she was airborne. Within a few breaths, her feet touched the ground, and she realized she had already left the Myriad Flower Tower far behind.

"I'll help you this far. Until we meet again," his clear voice echoed in her ears.

Lo Li turned her head, but the young man was nowhere to be seen, leaving her standing alone in the quiet alley.

The region was known for its constant dust storms, so everyone, men and women alike, wore veils when they went out. This inadvertently worked to Lo Li's advantage.

She knew her time was limited. She had heard Xiangxiang clearly when she spoke outside the door. A quarter of an hour, just fifteen minutes, and she had already spent five of those on the assassination and changing clothes to make her escape. That left her only ten minutes to get away.

Ten minutes wasn't even enough to reach the city gates.

Just as Lo Li was feeling desperate, she caught sight of a notice posted outside the County Yamen in the corner of her eye.

Due to a shortage of staff at the county office, we are in need of the following personnel: two officers, one post-mortem examiner, and one cook for general duties. Interested candidates should apply within the office.

Lo Li paused, recalling from Princess Mingyue's lingering memories that because General Lin had led troops to besiege the city, the local officers had been drafted to defend the city and many had perished. Now that the conflict was over and the county office was being reorganized under General Lin's orders, new recruits were needed.

What caught Lo Li's attention was the position of "post-mortem examiner." Essentially a forensic pathologist, this was right up her alley. According to Princess Mingyue's memories, in this world, post-mortem examiners were considered a lowly profession, unique within the office. People feared and looked down on them, yet dared not provoke them, as they dealt with the dead—a foot in the underworld, so to speak.

At least, that's how people on this continent saw it. But for Lo Li, it was the perfect cover. No one would suspect that the continent's most beautiful woman, Princess Mingyue of Yan, would become a post-mortem examiner. With this in mind, Lo Li confidently stepped into the office.

Meanwhile, in a dilapidated courtyard deep within the city palace...

A man with an imposing and fierce presence, masked and mysterious, stood in the center of the courtyard. Nearby, under a cherry blossom tree, hung a woman covered in blood.

Next to her was the man who had previously appeared on the rooftop of the First-grade Residence, dressed in a blue robe, handsome and elegant.

"Speak up. You should know by now that our prince never shows mercy. Just tell us where the item is."

"Will you... will you let me go if I do?" the woman asked weakly, her voice strained.

"Let you go? That's not how I operate," the man in the blue robe sneered. "When have I ever left anyone alive?"

"Ha, Feng Wuqing. So you're the infamous heartless master of the martial world. Who would've thought you'd become the prince's lackey?"

Before the woman could finish her sentence, Feng Wuqing raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face.
