C19 The threat within

The house was silent, but the air vibrated with tension. Amelia’s mind raced, the memory of Lena’s words burning into her thoughts: “The past doesn’t forgive.”

Adrian’s hand never left hers, thumb brushing her knuckles in a slow, grounding rhythm. “I won’t let her get to you,” he murmured, voice low and dangerous. “Not ever.”

Amelia swallowed hard, chest tight. His presence was intoxicating—every brush of his hand, every whispered word, made her pulse leap. The fragrance of his touch was her anchor, her thrill, her protection.

A soft creak echoed in the hallway. Adrian’s head snapped toward the sound, muscles coiling like a predator ready to strike. “Stay close,” he warned, eyes sharp as knives.

Amelia’s heart thumped, fear and desire mixing in a dizzying swirl. “I’m here,” she whispered.

From the shadows, a note slid across the floor. Amelia picked it up, eyes scanning the words: “You can run, but you can’t hide. She’s coming for you. Alone.”

Adrian’s jaw tightened. He stepped in front of her, hands on her shoulders, eyes locking on hers. “Alone? Never. Not while I breathe,” he said, possessive and unwavering.

Amelia’s chest heaved as she pressed closer to him, feeling his strength, his heat, his protective energy coursing through her. “I… I trust you,” she whispered.

Suddenly, a shadow moved near the window. Adrian’s body shifted, a dark, protective barrier between Amelia and danger. In one swift motion, he blocked the intruder, his presence dominating the room.

“You don’t scare me,” Lena’s voice hissed from the darkness. “But I will make her pay for leaving me behind.”

Adrian’s gaze hardened, dangerous as a storm. “Try me. And you’ll regret it.”

Amelia felt a shiver of exhilaration and fear. Every moment with him, every brush of his hand, every word was the fragrance of his touch—comfort, desire, and danger all wrapped into one.

The shadows lingered, Lena’s threat unresolved, and Amelia knew one thing: the storm was far from over.

But with Adrian, she felt ready. Ready to face the danger, ready to stand her ground, ready to let herself feel every thrilling, terrifying moment.

And the night stretched on, heavy with suspense and unspoken promise.
