C25 The breaking point

The night air was heavy, thick with anticipation. Amelia’s pulse raced, every sound sharper, every shadow a threat. She clung to Adrian, feeling the steady warmth of him grounding her, the fragrance of his touch igniting courage inside her.

Adrian’s dark eyes scanned the room, muscles taut, every sense alert. “She’s closer than ever,” he murmured, voice low and dangerous. “Stay behind me.”

Amelia’s hand squeezed his. “I… I trust you,” she whispered, heart pounding.

Then Lena struck. A sudden movement from the balcony, bold and unexpected, aimed straight at Amelia.

Adrian reacted instantly. He moved like a shadow, a wall, a storm. In one fluid, lethal motion, he intercepted Lena, blocking her advance and forcing her back. The air between them crackled with tension, danger, and desire.

“You can’t control her forever,” Lena spat, frustration flashing in her eyes. “Her past… always catches up.”

Adrian’s jaw hardened, dark and unyielding. “Not while I breathe. She’s mine. Anyone who threatens her… pays the price.”

Amelia pressed closer to him, shivering from both fear and the surge of desire his words, his presence, his touch provoked. Every protective gesture, every whispered word, every brush of his hand—it was the fragrance of his touch, intoxicating and grounding all at once.

Lena’s eyes narrowed, realizing she underestimated him. “This isn’t over,” she hissed before disappearing into the shadows, leaving a lingering threat behind.

Adrian turned to Amelia, possessive, protective, dark. “Are you okay?” he asked, voice a mixture of intensity and tenderness.

Amelia nodded, chest heaving. “I… I am. With you.”

He pressed his forehead against hers, possessive and intimate. “Good. Because I’ll never let anyone hurt you. Not tonight. Not ever.”

And as the night stretched on, full of shadows, danger, and unspoken promises, Amelia realized the storm was far from over—but with Adrian, she could face anything, any past, any threat.

Together.
