C27 The reckoning

The night felt alive with threat. Every shadow seemed to move, every whisper of wind a warning. Amelia clung to Adrian, pulse racing, heart hammering. The fragrance of his touch wrapped around her, grounding her, thrilling her, making her feel both safe and electrified.

Adrian’s gaze was dark, sharp, unyielding. “She’s close,” he murmured, muscles taut. “Stay behind me.”

Amelia’s fingers tightened around his. “I… I’m ready,” she whispered.

Suddenly, Lena appeared, bold and daring, stepping through the doorway with a smirk that made Amelia’s stomach twist. “Thought you could hide from me?” she hissed.

Adrian moved instantly, shadow and shield, placing himself between Amelia and the threat. “I warned you—she’s mine. Anyone who touches her… regrets it,” he growled, voice low and lethal.

Amelia’s chest heaved, pulse leaping. Every protective gesture, every brush of his hand, every whispered word from Adrian was the fragrance of his touch—intoxicating, grounding, and dangerously thrilling all at once.

Lena lunged suddenly, reckless, aggressive. Adrian reacted faster, intercepting her with a swift, precise motion that left her stumbling. The room seemed to vibrate with tension and desire.

“You can’t control her forever,” Lena spat, fury flashing in her eyes. “The past always catches up!”

Adrian’s jaw tightened, dark eyes locking onto hers. “Not while I breathe,” he said, possessive and unwavering. “She stays safe. Always.”

Amelia pressed closer to him, shivering from fear and a heat she couldn’t ignore. Every touch, every whispered word, every protective movement—it was the fragrance of his touch, thrilling and grounding her simultaneously.

Lena’s smirk faltered as she realized she had underestimated him. “This isn’t over,” she hissed before retreating into the shadows, leaving a lingering, menacing promise behind.

Adrian turned to Amelia, possessive, tender, and dark. “Are you okay?” he asked.

Amelia nodded, chest heaving. “I… I am. With you.”

He pressed his forehead against hers. “Good. Because I’ll never let anyone hurt you. Not tonight. Not ever.”

And as the night stretched on, full of shadows, danger, and unspoken promises, Amelia knew one thing: the storm was far from over—but with Adrian, she could face anything, any past, any threat.

Together.
