C4 Secrets in the shadows

Amelia’s pulse was hammering in her ears as Adrian’s words sank in. We’re not alone.

She wanted to demand answers, wanted to scream that she didn’t sign up for secrets and danger, but before she could speak, the door opened slightly, a shadow slipping inside the room.

Adrian moved in front of her instantly, like a shield. His eyes darkened, scanning the corner where the figure lingered.

“Who’s there?” he demanded, voice low and dangerous.

The shadow stepped forward, revealing a man in a sleek suit, eyes sharp, expression unreadable.

“Mr. Blackwood,” he said, voice controlled, “your father wants a word.”

Adrian’s jaw tightened. “I told you, I’m not dealing with him tonight.”

The man’s gaze flicked to Amelia. “Miss…?”

Amelia bristled. “I’m nobody.”

He nodded slightly, but his eyes lingered with curiosity, like he sensed something unspoken.

Adrian’s hand brushed against her shoulder. It was accidental, she told herself. But the heat of his touch spread through her anyway, making her knees weak.

He leaned close, voice low, “Stay behind me.”

Her stomach twisted. This was dangerous. She should leave. Run. But instead, she stayed, rooted by the intensity radiating from him.

The man’s gaze returned to Adrian. “He’s waiting. Says it’s urgent. Family business.”

Adrian ran a hand through his dark hair, frustration flashing across his face. “Fine,” he muttered. Then he looked at Amelia. “Stay here. No matter what. Understand?”

Amelia swallowed, nodding. “I… I understand.”

But understanding didn’t calm the storm raging inside her. She was inside his world now, a world of wealth, power, and secrets that could crush her.

Adrian turned toward the door, pausing for a moment. His gaze lingered on her face, and for an instant, vulnerability flashed in his eyes—eyes she had never thought she’d see outside of passion and control.

Then he was gone.

Alone in the lavish room, Amelia’s thoughts raced. What had she gotten herself into? She had only wanted answers, closure, maybe a chance to see the man she once loved…

But now, she realized the truth: she was in far deeper than she had ever imagined.

A soft click echoed behind her. She spun around, heart hammering. The shadow from before was back, smiling faintly.

“Ms. Amelia,” he said, voice calm, “I think it’s time we talked.”

Her pulse leapt. She had no idea who he was or what he wanted. But one thing was clear—nothing in her life would ever be the same again.

And as the door closed behind him, a sudden chill ran down her spine. She wasn’t just caught between Adrian and the past… she was caught in something far more dangerous.

Something that might destroy them both.

And Amelia realized with a shiver that she was already… hooked.
